Escape the rat-race for a while in this perfect little one-bedroom bolthole perched on the blustery Northumberland coast. Set in the heart of Boulmer village, with the local pub/restaurant less than 50 metres away, it’s a great base for friends and their canine companions looking for a decent dose of vitamin sea and a long-overdue catch-up. Enjoy spectacular walks along the Coast and Castles Route, cosy lunches overlooking the beach, and watch the fisherman haul their traditional fishing cobles ashore.
The stone-built cottage has an open-plan interior that’s perfect for its size. Relax in the living area with a movie and a glass of wine or spread the maps out on the dining table to plan the next day’s adventure. The kitchen has everything you’ll need to prepare a hearty meal after days spent out and about, though with a pub so close you’d be forgiven for dining out. As eye droop and tired muscles complain, head off to the comfortable twin bedroom and in the morning let the dogs wander the enclosed yard while you enjoy a cup of fresh coffee at the patio table. There is also a lockable bike storage shed outside.
There are walks and cycle trails from the doorstep here, whether you’re in the mood for a gentle stroll on the sandy beach, or a longer walk along the coast path to Craster or Alnmouth, each around 4 miles away. The wide beaches are doggy heaven, and you can walk barefoot on sand right down to Warkworth, 7 miles away if you’re feeling extra energetic. Explore the dog-friendly medieval castle, browse the independent shops or hire a boat and view the historic town from its encircling river.
