Modern cottage located in rural Argyll, perfectly situated for an evening's relaxation for your small group of two or three after a day of forest walks, fishing or mountain biking.

This enchanting stone cottage enjoys a secluded position in one of Scotland's most historic landscapes. Sleeping two guests – plus a third on a trundle bed and two canine companions – this property is ideally located if you and your pack want to explore the rugged glens, remote beaches, dramatic scenery and magical islands of this wonderful part of Argyll and simply get lost in the magic of the Scottish scenery.

The newly built, single-storey cottage is found 0.5 miles down a private track, adjacent to the owner's holiday cottage. It benefits from its own patio with furniture, which is a glorious spot to sit out and soak up the beautiful unspoilt surroundings, with roe deer, red squirrels, pine marten and many varieties of birds among the local wildlife whilst your pups sniff out doggy treasures. Inside, the property is comfortably furnished, with a wood burner in the spacious open-plan living area creating a cosy atmosphere for relaxing after an exhilarating day out (note that three steps lead from the living space to the kitchen).

Outside, a 500m walk down a steep path will take you to a small loch that was once the site of a 19th-century slate quarry, as well as the Cairnbaan Hotel, which offers bar meals, fine dining and it's dog friendly. The local area also provides plenty of hill and forest walks, mountain biking and fishing, which is sure to keep tails wagging, while urban hounds are just 3 miles from Lochgilphead, where you will find a wide range of shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as a grooming parlour for mucky pups. Alternatively, 5.5 miles north-west is the harbour village of Crinan, where you can watch the boats come and go while you enjoy locally caught seafood at a hotel or cafe. Further afield, Oban – 35 miles north – offers attractions for all ages, with ferry services to Mull and the Outer Hebridean islands for more distant adventures.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £150 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

There are numerous fantastic walks right from the front door, up hills and through forests. The steep hill from the cottage leads directly down to a peaceful loch. The path to the Cairnbaan Hotel also takes you to the Crinan Canal, around 1 mile on foot or 1.5 miles by car. There, you can enjoy canalside walks and bike rides, take a boat ride or visit the sandy Crinan Ferry Beach, which is around 5 miles by car from the property. It's a wonderful place for nature spotting, with red deer, otters, seals and owls often seen.

The harbourside town of Crinan is 6 miles away at the end of the canal. It has a very pretty natural harbour and lighthouse and a choice of pubs and cafes, making it a great place to spend an afternoon. From the harbour, you can charter a boat for a day of fishing, island hopping or wildlife watching. You can also visit the Gulf of Corrievreckan, where there are whirlpools and standing waves, and eagles, whales and dolphins are often seen.

Lochgilphead, 3 miles away, has a good choice of shops and supermarkets, and is the ideal place to stock up on supplies for home-cooked meals.

A very nice well appointed cottage well finished and in a nice location. Warm comfortable and quiet. Its great if you have dogs as there is a very large porch area where you can clean and dry them off. Woodland tracks offer early morning and easy last walks ! The cottage is located up a short rough track with some potholes but manageable.

A charming little cottage in a perfect location that really gives you a feeling of getting away from it all. The cottage is cosy and well equipped, surround by beautiful forest ideal for exploring. Its location offers a wealth of choice for activities. We very much enjoyed our break here, along with our two dogs.

We had an enjoyable stay at the cottage. Remote but not too far from the village. Beautiful countryside and good for exploring the area. In the description speaks of a path of half a mile to Cairnbaan we could not find it.

Great location with plenty to do and experience from the door without using the car! The local scenery and woods surrounding the cottage are sensational and worth expolring. The cottage would have been perfect appart from as previously mentioned the mattresses are replaced as they are in a sorry state and gave us a few sleepless nights and bad backRead mores. A minor gripe, we weren't even left one bin bag at the cottage which I find hard to belive nowadays. Recycling instructions would help. Hide

Slate Cottage was a wonderful location for a relaxing holiday. The design of the building is both practical and comfortable with a boot room to ensure the outside stays outside and a wet room/ shower area. The location is far enough away from the town to feel peaceful, but only a short hop to the shops in Lochgilphead. The house is at the south endRead more of Kilmartin Glen which is a concentrated area of Neolithic sites with Iron Age forts, stone circles, burial cairns and 4500 year old carved rocks, all of which are easily accessible. Invarary and Oban are relatively close and offer indoor activities if the weather is bad. We were fortunate with the weather so most of our activities were outdoor, our dog thought he was in doggy heaven and our 10 year old developed an unexpected interest in rambling. For the sake of balance, while we didn't experience any challenges which couldn't be overcome, a few of the bulbs were gone, specifically the oven, and the external lights which did cause us some inconvenience late at night. Also, we could have done with more pots, pans and kitchen utensils. I suspect this is down to normal wear and tear and didn't detract from our enjoyment significantly, Hide
