  • Stunning views and an array of wildlife with Exmoor ponies grazing in the surrounding fields and a herd of Red Deer may also be spotted close by

Property code: 10056

Located inside Exmoor National Park, feel the space of the surrounding fields and woodland, a paradise for photographers and dog owners alike. You and your four-legged friend will love the beautiful countryside and the range of  beautiful walks. Winsford Hill, which is within 10 minutes of the property by car is a great place for your dog to run. Or head down the hill to Marsh Bridge, where you can park your car and walk along the pretty River Barle into Dulverton, with its bespoke shops and eateries. You can walk 3.5 miles from Sheepfold to the famed and ancient Tarr Steps where, after crossing the ancient Clapper Bridge, you will find the 16th Century Tarr Farm Inn which is perfect for lunch, coffee or a cream tea. A 40 minute drive will take you to Porlock Weir, where you can join the coastal path along part of the Somerset coastline, then return to the cosy cottage, for quality time together as you rest your feet and paws.

The homely open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner is welcoming and comfortable, just what you need after a day of exploring. Bright, and cheerfully decorated with warm touches of colour, the cottage retains a traditional charm with its vaulted ceiling and exposed dark wood beams. Your hound can settle in for the evening on a comfortable cushion or bed, while you prepare dinner. Move across from the table to the sofas and relax with a glass of wine and a film. When you’re ready, it’s not far to the pretty double bedroom. Soak in a hot bath before getting a good night’s rest. Outside there’s a small enclosed patio area for leisurely brunches, and a shared garden where you and your furry friends can stretch your legs. As the adjoining fields can contain deer and ponies, it’s best to keep your canine on a lead.

On a sunny day head to Dunster Castle (15 miles) for a wander round the extensive grounds. Dogs are allowed everywhere except the castle and tearoom, but there’s plenty to keep you busy outside so let your pup lead the way. There’s the South Terrace, The Keep, and the wider parkland to sniff out. Their four paws can even enter the working watermill in the River Garden, where you can also all take a seat in the tearoom garden for a break and a drink.

Great property in a great location. Small village with everything you would need 5-10 minutes down the road. Nice area that's gated for dogs to have a run around. Had a lovely time and would go back again anytime. Highly recommended. Owner very helpful too .

Super cottage in very rural area of Somerset. Owner had provided everything needed including coffee, sugar and milk for when you first arrive, as well as some cake! No downsides to cottage at all, plenty large enough for two people plus a dog.

The bed was a bit hard for us, but that's probably a personal choice. We loved the location - so peaceful, especially at night.
