Semi-detached converted barn lovingly restored with exposed stonework, beams and a cosy log burner to curl up in front of in the evening. The property was featured in the Country Living Magazine's ‘Great Escapes’, the perfect place to get away from it all. Set at the foot of Cross Fell, the highest point in the Pennines.
Picture your perfect staycation surrounded by the tumbling Cumbrian countryside, snuggled in front of a roaring fire with your faithful hound by your side. Based in a character packed stone barn, your family of four will soon be exploring the spectacular landscape of the North Pennines and the Lake District. At night, grab a blanket and relax under the stars with a glass of wine in hand and a few treats for Fido.
Step back in time from the moment you enter the property, popping a log on the wood burner and settling down with a warming brew. Let sleeping dogs lie as you rustle up a fantastic feast in the kitchen area, best enjoyed around the table. The open-plan living space is brimming with history and character, featuring exposed stone walls, timber beamed ceilings, and smooth wooden floors. Exhausted from your adventures, the upstairs bedrooms are crisply dressed for a restful night’s sleep and have ample room for a cosy basket. The family bathroom is ideal for long soaks or hosing down muddy paws in the shower over the bath, but be sure to bring along your own towels. Outside, the vast expanse of garden is delightfully private and mainly set to lawn with shrubs, trees, and the odd rabbit.
Lace-up your boots and prepare to explore, challenging yourself to a hike up the imposing Cross Fell from Kirkland village to take in the breathtaking views and slightly eerie cross-shelter at the top. Further afield, Pooley Bridge 14.5 miles away is tucked on the edge of Ullswater Lake, where you can take a steamer across the water to Glenridding. From here, you can access a plethora of walking routes to tackle Striding Edge, or simply kick pack and enjoy a snack at one of the cafes.
