Get two and four legs moving with walks to the delightful coastal village of Auchencairn (1 mile) or stride out on a more challenging hike through the vast woodlands of Galloway Forest Park (20 miles). If you’re lucky, you might even spot an elusive red squirrel or pine marten. If your boy loves to frolic in the waves, head to the golden sands of Sandyhills Beach (13.5 miles), which allows dogs throughout the year. Water sports enthusiasts and dogs on leads can also burn off some energy at Galloway Activity Centre (18 miles) on the banks of Loch Ken.
