This gorgeous cottage in the heart of the Peak District is the ultimate bolthole for two romantic dog-owners. Sleeping two people in one bedroom and welcoming two waggy-tailed friends, this converted farm building boasts beautiful views of the Derbyshire and Staffordshire countryside from every angle and plenty of wonderful walks right from its doorstep.

This ground floor cottage is set within a complex of lovely converted farm buildings. Step inside and you’ll discover a comfy open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Make yourself at home and cook up a romantic meal for two in the well-equipped kitchen and serve it up in the dining area or at the picnic tables on the property’s spacious shared lawn area. After dinner, cosy-up with your loved one in the living area for the evening as your well-exercised pups snooze happily at your feet. At the end of the day, retire to the spacious bedroom for the night before waking up to idyllic views of the surrounding countryside.

It’s well worth heading into Hartington (3 miles), a historic village at the northern end of Dovedale that was granted its market charter back in 1203. Take a gentle stroll past the 14th-century church, the village square and the duck pond before stopping at one of the dog-friendly pubs for a pint. Your four-legged friends will also enjoy a jaunt to Buxton Country Park (13 miles), where the paths lead you up to Solomon's Tower – a fortified Victorian hill marker - and the remains of several Bronze Age burial chambers. There are plenty of dog-friendly pubs and cafes in the historic spa town of Buxton where you can grab a bite to eat afterwards.
