Built into and on top of the medieval walls, this cottage has panoramic views spanning over the estuary, functioning port and the three bridge, a great base to explore Berwick-upon-Tweed.
Your home in the historic sea town of Berwick-upon-Tweed is this charming estuary-side cottage. Nestled into the walls of the quay itself, it’s the perfect family retreat for history and nature lovers. And, with beaches and coastal walks setting off from your doorstep, it’s the ideal escape for your furry friends, too.
Arrive at the cottage via a historic stroll along the quay wall. Inside, a charming open-plan kitchen and dining room capture the shifting light of the estuary and look out on the water. The kitchen is modern and spacious with all the equipment you could want for making yourselves at home. Next, you’ll come to a comfortable lounge where you can cosy up in front of the TV or with a good book, then through the hall is a snug, all set up with board games and a desk. After a long day’s exploring, head to your two delightfully dressed bedrooms — one double and one twin.
The cottage looks out onto the estuary of the River Tweed, and from here the first thing you’ll want to do is explore the medieval town around you. Stroll the Elizabethan ramparts or pop into one of the many dog-friendly traditional pubs in town. When you’re ready for a more rugged walk, the climbs of the Scottish Borders are yours to explore. Journey over the bridge to Spittal, a 2-mile walk, where a sandy beach stretches up to the mouth of the Tweed. Or venture a little further along the coast — 5 miles away is Cocklawburn Beach, popular with dogs but also fascinating for humans with its rock pools full of fossils. And, of course, the majestic and theatrical city of Edinburgh is a lovely train or car ride away around the spectacular coastline.
Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.
