Experience the ultimate romantic escape when staying at this idyllic cottage set on the beautiful Isle of Mull – wildlife, adventures and tranquillity await at this delightful property.

Formerly part of the blacksmith's house, this delightful ground-floor cottage is set in the friendly coastal village of Salen on the Isle of Mull. Thoughtfully renovated and tastefully furnished, the cottage features original exposed beams and a nautically-themed wood-panelled wall with two antique brass portholes, which cleverly light up to reveal painted ship scenes relating to this historic island. Ideally situated for exploring the eastern coast – and with the thriving town of Tobermory to the north – this is a wonderful holiday retreat for a couple and their pet dog.

Set on one floor with a couple of steps leading to the entrance, the cottage offers a relaxing, spacious and inviting lounge/diner, which makes a wonderful space to unwind in at the end of a great day exploring this idyllic Hebridean island. There's also a small, stylishly designed kitchen perfect for preparing your favourite meals in. The light and attractive king-size bedroom can also be made up as a twin room on request, and you will also find a porch with coat/boot storage space, as well as a handy bathroom.

The historic village of Salen overlooks the Sound of Mull and makes a lovely holiday base for exploring the Isle of Mull. The village has a number of shops and places to eat and drink, and is midway between Tobermory (10 miles) and Craignure (11 miles) which is home to the impressive 700-year-old Duart Castle and the ferry terminal to the mainland. The pretty 18th-century port of Tobermory is known for its colourful buildings on the harbour and features a range of great shops, restaurants and pubs, as well as a distillery, museum, gallery and the An Tobar live music venue. Dogs can help you explore the beautiful Aros Park and there are miles of coastal and country walks to discover.

Renowned for its colourful, harbour-front houses, it was built as a fishing port in 1788. Spend time looking in its shops and stop for something to eat in one of its restaurants. Visit the Mull Museum and the Marine Visitor Centre; take a guided tour of the Tobermory Distillery. Play golf on the town's hill-top course and book a place on one of the whale-watching or wildlife cruises that leaves from the harbour. Walk past many interesting buildings and historical sites on hikes around Mull during your stay.

Look out for 19th-century Glengorm Castle, 14.5 miles from your holiday home, for example, and Duart Castle, some 14 miles away which is the ancestral home of Clan Maclean. Well equipped cottage but no outside space, on a road junction but very quiet at night and well placed on the island

Location is important on the Isle of Mull, as we have found out over many years on the island, this cottage is in the perfect location with a 30 second walk to a well stocked shop. Within minutes we were at our favourite spot for Otters and Eagles. It would be a pleasure to stay in this cottage again.

Puffer Cottage was warm and comfortable and spotlessly clean. It was extremely well equipped and the thoughtful little touches like bath robes, toiletries and fluffy towels to be appreciated. The Spar shop, just 50m to the left was very well stocked and had a Post Office Counter and ATM. The Salen Hotel, 100m to the right served good food. Salen isRead more a good central point from which to explore Mull. "Enjoy Mull" Tours are based in Salen and provide informative and enjoyable wildlife tours and the Eagle Watch is a must. Hide

Perfect location to explore Mull. Cottage has everything you need for a holiday. Very comfortable and would definitely recommend. Spar is close by for groceries and even has a laundrette.

Did what is said on the label, well laid out surprisingly spacious. Could do with a little better lighting in the dining area. Two doors down from the Spar shop. Although on the main road, road noise did not intrude. Ardmore Fish a hundred yards down the road and just across the road from the local hotel. Would happily stay again.
