Sleeping five guests across two bedrooms, and welcoming one dog, this stylish cottage is ideal for a family holiday. In a rural setting just 4 miles from Oxford City Centre, with a beautiful circular walk straight from the doorstep along the Chilswell Valley that will have tails wagging, here you have the best of peaceful countryside and bustling city.
The inside of the house is light, bright, and colourful, with plenty of space for Fido’s best bed. At the heart of the cottage is the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner where the whole family can gather morning and night. Back from a walk, put any clothes and dog coats needing a refresh in the washing machine and then soak under the shower, while your hound rests their paws with a well-deserved lie down. Cook a family meal in the kitchen, and eat at the table, with a dog bowl by your feet so everyone is together. After playing a game or watching the TV, head to bed, whether that’s the king-size, the adult-size bunk bed (plus pull-out), or a cosy cushion. Outside there’s a large lawn, as well as a decked area, which includes a stream and a treehouse for younger guests.
Head into the city centre (4 miles) for a stroll along cobbled streets, past iconic buildings, and through Christ Church Meadows, then stop for a snack in one of the dog-friendly cafes or pubs.
When you want to have a look inside some of Oxford’s best-known attractions, there is a doggy day care centre only a mile up the road from the cottage. They can play while you visit the sights, such as the Ashmolean Museum and Oxford Botanic Garden. The Park at Blenheim Palace (10 miles) is a great adventure for curious canines: let them take the lead on one of two dog-friendly routes, around either the lake or the perimeter of the entire park.
