This quaint cottage, situated just a short walk from the centre of Kelso, is an ideal retreat for your family – including the pups, of course! Sleeping four across two cosy bedrooms, this beautiful property overlooks St. Andrews Church and the River Tweed. Wander around the town and discover the history behind the cobbled square and the abbey ruins, before stopping for lunch at one of the restaurants and pubs.

The property, which is split over three floors, is comfortable and welcoming with plenty of traditional features. Snuggle into the sofas in the evening with a good book, the dogs by your feet, and enjoy a snack prepared in the charming and bright kitchen. Heading up the cottage stairs, the bedrooms are warm and inviting thanks to peaceful decor that promotes a great night’s sleep; wake up refreshed and head out to the front of the house where there’s seating for you to enjoy an al fresco breakfast, watching the world go by.

Pick a section of the Pennine Way National Trail and take a long walk; there are 20 Sites of Special Scientific Interest, two National Nature Reserves and three National Parks along the way. You could start 8 miles away in Kirk Yetholm. Kids will love the history at Jedburgh Castle Jail and Museum (12 miles), while the hounds will love playing in the grounds. Further afield, dogs ride free on the Heatherslaw Light Railway (16.5 miles), and you can enjoy a ride along the banks of the River Till with stunning views of the Northumberland countryside.

Set on the confluence of the rivers Tweed and Teviot, Kelso is a charming place to spend time. Explore its cobbled streets, market square, and fascinating shops. Cross the town's five-arched bridge, which was the model for London's Waterloo Bridge. Wander through the ruins of Kelso Abbey, which was founded in the 1100s and was one of Scotland's largest religious houses. You can also visit Floors Castle, which dates from 1721 and houses a fine collection of art, porcelain and tapestries. Stroll through its gardens and areas of woodland; follow riverside walks and look out for a variety of outdoor events.

Golf enthusiasts can play on the 18-hole parkland course at Kelso Golf Club or spend a day at the town's racecourse. Go fishing in this area, which is internationally renowned for its salmon fishing and famous beats such as Lower Floors, Junction and Hendersyde.

Drive 23 miles to attractive Berwick-upon-Tweed to spend time on the coast. Pass summer days on its sandy beaches, visit the museums and stroll along its famous Elizabethan walls. Or you could head just under 10 miles from your cottage to the pretty town of Greenlaw. Set in the scenic foothills of the Lammermuir Hills, you can stroll from here along Blackadder Water or go fly fishing.

Had a wonderful, relaxing break. The cottage was lovely and ideally located for amenities with good parking. We enjoyed the walk along the river Teviot to Roxburgh, and back along the old railway line (approx. 7 miles). Would stay at Otter's cottage, thank you for the hospitality.
