For a holiday with the whole pack, this cottage welcomes a family of four human guests and up to two canines. Entirely single-storey, small, old, or tired paws won’t have to struggle with stairs; after big adventures they can give their wagging tails a rest and stretch out. From the property, you have easy access to the spectacular beaches that line the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, all of which are either permanently dog-friendly or have only seasonal restrictions.
Inside the cottage is a fantastic family space, with an open-plan lounge/diner leading into the kitchen. Cook a favourite meal from home and eat round the dining table as you swap ideas for the next day’s adventures. Meanwhile your hound can be enjoying a tasty dish of their own. Snuggle up on the sofa and watch TV together, then let your sleeping dog lie and head to a soft pillow in one of the pretty bedrooms. In the morning, admire the views from the large lounge window over breakfast, or sit out on the enclosed patio where your dog can have a sniff around. Keep an eye on curious canines though, as it’s a low fence.
For a fantastic walk along the coast, follow the trail from Low Newton by the Sea (2.5 miles), stopping off at Embleton Bay Beach (3 miles) where children and dogs alike will love playing on the sand and going for a paddle in the waves. Keep going, and you’ll reach the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle (3.5 miles). On your return, try the local food at Low Newton’s dog-friendly pub.
