Set in an idyllic rural position near the village of Tisbury, this stylish converted barn is the perfect base for a relaxing break spent sampling local cuisine and taking long walks

This beautiful property, located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, sleeps four guests and one canine chum. The peaceful village of Fonthill Gifford is a great base for long walks through the Cranborne Chase countryside, before returning for a hearty meal in the traditional country pub. There are some great woof-friendly attractions nearby, including Old Wardour Castle (4.5 miles away) and the pretty town of Shaftesbury (10 miles away) with its romantic Gold Hill and breathtaking views over Blackmore Vale.

A private gravel driveway leads to this detached barn conversion. On entering the property, you’ll find a handy utility area – perfect for dealing with muddy paws after a long walk. The stunning open-plan kitchen/diner boasts elegant vaulted ceilings and is a fantastic sociable space for enjoying meals together. The inviting lounge, accessed via a short flight of steps, is the ideal place to snuggle up after a day of exploring, with the hound stretched out in front of the cosy wood burner. On a warm evening, dine alfresco on the patio whilst admiring the peaceful views over the paddocks, which are often home to a flock of sheep.

You’ll find a whole host of stunning walks in Cranborne Chase, guaranteed to get tails wagging with delight. Head to Win Green (9.5 miles away) – the highest point in the AONB – for quintessential English countryside and far-reaching views towards the Isle of Wight and the Quantock Hills. Just remember to keep the pup under control near livestock. For drama and great photo opportunities, spend a few hours at Old Wardour Castle. The furball can join you to explore the ruins and water bowls are provided. Alternatively, enjoy a lazy afternoon pottering around the 2 acres of gardens at Arundells (15 miles away), the former home of Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath.

A very comfortable and well-designed property in a lovely quiet location. A great area for dog walking, and having a good pub within walking distance was a bonus. Plenty to see and do in the area.

Nell's Barn is one of the best places we've ever stayed, having everything we could have wanted. The barn is both large & airy as well as cosy during the coldest of nights, especially with the wood burner on. The photos don't do it justice.
