Charming, traditional property with wonderful high ceilings and exposed stone walls with cinema projector to watch movies, wood burners for cosy nights in and fully enclosed garden for al fresco dining.
Set in an elevated position in the heart of Wanlockhead, Scotland’s highest village, this gorgeous stone cottage is the ideal base for a large family or group of friends marking a special occasion. Surrounded by breathtaking views, the cottage is perfect for walkers, cyclists, hikers and nature lovers keen to explore the beauty and heritage of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This tastefully decorated, detached cottage offers spacious living areas, modern amenities and an enclosed garden perfect for entertaining.
Bright, spacious rooms with quirky features make this a welcoming property where guests will feel at home immediately. There is ample seating in the lounge, a sociable space with a wood burner that’s made for catching up, watching films and popping corks well into the evening. Many a toast will be made around the large wooden table in the dining room with a wood burner on hand for colder evening meals. Those staying up late may well find their way into the kitchen for a midnight feast, with goodies drawn from the butler’s pantry or prepared in the wood burning range oven. A period staircase leads to the first floor’s six bedrooms: two king-size bedrooms, a double bedroom, a twin bedroom, an en-suite double bedroom with an additional two single beds and an en-suite double bedroom with an exposed stone wall and Inglenook fireplace. A shower room also sits nearby. The enclosed garden is a place for al fresco dining and stargazing, maybe with a wee dram in hand.
The former lead mining village of Wanlockhead is home to dog-friendly amenities and dogs are also welcome on the Leadhills & Wanlockhead Railway (2 miles), the highest narrow gauge adhesion railway in Great Britain. Dogs are also welcome to roam the gardens at Drumlanrig Castle (14 miles), an estate also home to waymarked footpaths and mountain bikes, though others can be found closer to the cottage.
