Stay at this spacious house in pretty Appledore, a North Devon fishing village with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. With lovely views over the Taw-Torridge Estuary, you can start admiring the beautiful scenery as soon as you wake each morning. The house welcomes six people and one canine chum over three floors. There are plenty of options for dog-friendly activities nearby – whether it’s wandering down characterful narrow streets, drinking coffee on a cafe terrace or taking a boat across the estuary to nearby Instow (5 miles).
A quirky, colourful decor gives this accommodation style and individuality. The main living space is perfect for mingling as a family, be it preparing snacks in the kitchen, stretching out on the sofa with the dog or admiring views over the estuary from the Juliet balcony. The floor here is non-carpeted so it’s easy to sweep up dog hairs. Out the back there’s an enclosed courtyard where you can eat on warm days while Cooper hounds you for scraps. There’s a small patio to the front of the property too, presenting more opportunities for enjoying the fresh air.
Within 0.5 miles you’ll find a pretty harbour, a chip shop and a 17th-century waterfront pub where dogs are welcome. Walking your little fluff bundle is easy from here – Northam Burrows Country Park, a coastal plain with salt marshes, sand dunes, horses and grazing sheep, is less than 1 mile away. You might choose to amble around the estuary or along the sandy beach at Westward Ho! (3 miles). For a spectacular day out spotting puffins and grey seals, head to Bideford (3.5 miles) and take a boat to Lundy, a 3-mile-long island in the Bristol Channel.
