An idyllic retreat set in the heart of the Cornish countryside, perfect for exploring both the north and south coasts of the region.
A couple and their faithful friend can enjoy a relaxed rural retreat in this homely detached cottage set within a working farm. Surrounded by the dramatic landscape and many trails of Bodmin Moor, it’s the perfect base for keen walkers and nature lovers, and your hound will go mutts for their walkies every day. The cottage also features handy stairgates, so you won’t have to worry about old or small dogs with shaky paws climbing the stairs alone.
If it’s a wet or muddy day on the moor, the washing machine and tumble dryer will take care of damp socks or towels with paw prints. There’s wood flooring throughout the property, so make sure to bring an assortment of Fido’s comfiest cushions and best beds for them to curl up in and snooze. After dinner in the bright kitchen/diner, move across to the sofas in the lounge, switching on the wood burner-effect electric fire for a cosy feel. Fuss your top dog and unwind amidst the peace and quiet. Upstairs, get ready for bed, watching out for the charming sloping ceilings in both the bedroom and bathroom, and drift into sleep. When the sun shines, dine alfresco with a BBQ while your pup sniffs their way round the shared enclosed garden.
Pay a visit to Jamaica Inn (2 miles) with its atmospheric history of smuggling which was famously immortalised by author Daphne Du Maurier in her novel of the same name. The warm welcome to all will have tails wagging, and you can tuck into a hearty meal before setting out again across the moor. Let your dog take the lead on walks around Golitha Falls (8.5 miles), The Hurlers Stone Circles (11.5 miles), and Stowe’s Hill (12 miles).
Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.
