At a glance

  • A lovely converted coach house
  • Set in a pretty and peaceful village location
  • Conveniently located for both the Wye Valley and Brecon Beacons
Property code: 42938

Beautifully restored former Coach House set in a quiet village location, the property is a great base to explore what the area has to offer.

Set tails wagging when you wander through the Wye Valley or follow trails through the Brecon Beacons National Park from this inviting cottage in the village of Grosmont, just inside Wales. Two pups are very welcome to join a pair of guests at this romantic retreat in the heart of spectacular border countryside. Pack a picnic and head for the hills or take your happy hounds with you when you dine at dog-friendly pubs and restaurants in the area. Head home after long days out in the fresh air to relax together in comfort or soak up the sunshine on the terrace.

Step into this pretty, stone cottage, which is located in the grounds of the owner’s property but enjoys its privacy, to find bright, welcoming accommodation. Settle down to spend relaxing evenings together in the open-plan kitchen/lounge/dining room, listening to music via the iPod dock or watching TV, while your cheerful chums stretch out close by. On chilly evenings switch on the wood burner-effect electric fire; prepare tasty treats in your well-equipped kitchen, where you will also find a handy washing machine. Head upstairs to your comfortable bedroom and your bathroom.

Stroll over to Grosmont Castle in the village where four-legged friends on leads are welcome to explore the lower levels of the ruins with you. From the castle, find a number of walks of varying lengths, with views towards the Black Mountains. Drive 6.5 miles to the Pandy Valley on the edge of the Brecon Beacons. Pick up the 177-mile Offa’s Dyke Path and follow it as far as you choose. Venture 18 miles in the other direction to find yourself in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty: explore spectacular Symonds Yat and areas in the Forest of Dean with your energetic pals.

SLEEPS 2 : (plus a baby): Master bedroom with plentiful storage. All bed linen included and synthetic pillows available for those with allergies if required

RELAXING: The cottage is very warm and fully centrally heated. Comfy sofa and armchairs, wi-fi / tv / dvd / iPod dock and radio available as well as a welcome stash of magazines and local reads to enjoy.

COOKING:  Kitchen with electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, basic included (ie: washing up liquid, loo paper, salt and pepper etc). Dining table and chairs.

BATHING: Upstairs bathroom with bath with shower mixer taps, basin, loo. Towels included.

OUTSIDE:  Peaceful terrace and gravelled area with lovely views.  Majestic Red Kites can frequently be seen from the Coach House wheeling above Grosmont Castle, which is within easy strolling distance - and perfect for picnics.  Bike storage is available.

PETS:  Up to two dogs are very welcome and are charged at £10 per dog per week.

BABIES:  Regret no children, babes in arms welcome only. Please bring your own cot and highchair. The Coach House sadly isn't very suitable for babies once they start to crawl - have a peek at Willow Cottage instead.

GROSMONT:  Boasts its own castle just 100 metres away and 2nd Saturday in the month the local market sets up its stalls in the centre of the village.

OUT AND ABOUT:   The nearby village of Ewyas Harold has one of the best village shops around, a very good old fashioned country butcher, and an excellent fish and chip shop if you're looking for typical British fayre.   A fantastic selection of groceries are always available until 10.00pm from the Farm Shop at Lockes Garage on the A465 towards Hereford (even open on Christmas Day)! Baileys Home and Garden for those with an eye for interior design is near Ross on Wye.  Great for a browse and also has a very good café for a light lunch.

HOLIDAY PREPARATION: We would advise to contact local amenities directly, such as shops, restaurants, pubs and attractions, to confirm the latest opening times and availability.

We were made very welcome by the owner Sue and her lovely dog Lupin. The coach house was very comfortable and homely. Plenty of places to visit and recommendations from Sue to local amenities and walks. Even though the weather was mixed we really enjoyed our break and so did our dog Maggie. Thank you!

Wonderful location very relaxing and friendly village. We dined out at a different restaurant every night all dog friendly. Roads are quiet. Ideal location for walking. The cottage whilst small was all we needed and emasculate. Owner Sue was perfect. A special holiday with loads to do. Relaxing came easily.
