The attractive town of Hawick is 11 miles away. Known for its knitwear, you’ll find plenty of purse-friendly textile shops plus an abundance of cosy pubs and cafes that happily welcome pooches.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Well worth a visit is Hawick (11 miles), the largest of the Scottish Border towns. Famous for its textiles, browse the boutiques selling cashmere and tweed, gaze on the imposing sculpture of the horse, commemorating the largest and oldest Common Ridings, and discover the town’s heritage in the Textile Towerhouse Museum. Enjoy walks along the banks of the River Teviot as you explore Wilton Lodge Park and find the perfect spot for a picnic. On the outskirts of town, discover the blood-thirsty history of sinister Hermitage Castle (16 miles).

Hop in the saddle to explore the scenic landscape by bicycle. Discover the heather-strewn moorland of Lindean Moor and tranquil Lindean Loch Nature Reserve on a circular trail from Selkirk (20 miles). Explore the stunning Bowhill Estate (25 miles) and Ettrick Water, or challenge yourself with the 79-mile long Borderloop Hawick, through peaceful valleys with steep ascents and exhilarating descents.
