This pretty property, situated less than 1.5 miles from the sand and shingle beach at Brighstone, is ideal for your entire family – including up to two furry members! Sleeping up to six across three comfy bedrooms, it won’t be long before you’re out exploring the south-west of the Isle of Wight. Start the day with a walk along the Tennyson Trail (7.5 miles) before heading back to the house for an al fresco lunch looking out across the Downs.
The cottage, which sits in a small complex of similar properties, is spacious and homely. The kitchen has a country-cottage feel and everything you need to whip up the family favourites, while the open-plan living area is the perfect place to wind down in the evenings. Pretty coastal touches remind you of your proximity to the beach even when it’s dark; snuggle up on the sofa with a good book while the pups make themselves at home in front of the coal-effect electric fire. The bedrooms offer a peaceful night’s sleep thanks to soft, neutral decor; wake up in the master bedroom and head to the balcony with your morning coffee, or nip down to the patio to soak up the morning sun.
Brighstone Museum (1 mile) is an interesting, dog-friendly museum to take the kids to when the weather isn’t too kind; just up the road is the Dinosaur Expedition Centre (1.5 miles) where you can take a look at fossils, do activities and even go on your own fossil hunt! Further afield but still within easy reach, Arreton Down Nature Reserve (13 miles) is a great spot to go to in the summer to try and spot Chalkhill Blue Butterflies and listen to the field crickets.
