This picture-perfect cottage, ideally located for outdoor enthusiasts with wonderful dog-walking and cycling routes nearby, is a superb base for a car-free holiday. At the back of the property, open forest landscape will put a spring in your step and a wag in the tails of up to two four-legged friends, so explore and admire the beautiful countryside.

Complete with peaceful gardens and a white picket fence, this chocolate-box cottage situated at the gateway to the New Forest, combines with a modern interior. The open-plan ground-floor living area focuses on a cosy wood burner, perfect for you and your pets on chilly evenings. The country-style kitchen is equipped with all the essentials while the handy ground-floor cloakroom is great for storing muddy boots, coats and leads after a day exploring in the fresh air. The pretty gardens have a BBQ, garden furniture and a sun parasol. The sun trap patio area is wonderful for unwinding. The lovely location offers plenty of open countryside walks for you and your doggy pals to enjoy right on the doorstep.

The village of Sway is under a mile away for independent shops, while the village pub welcomes all dogs and well-behaved owners. In the rolling countryside of the New Forest, you will find horse riding at Brockenhurst (3 miles), the Motor Museum at Beaulieu (10 miles) and Mudeford Quay (10 miles) which is very popular with families and ideal for a spot of crabbing. Jump aboard the Mudeford Ferry for visits to the sandy beach haven of Spit (13 miles) where dogs are welcomed at the popular cafe/bar.

This is one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in. It was warm, beautifully clean, had very comfortable beds, &the bed linen & towels were very good quality. It was well equipped, & even though it was early spring plenty of logs & kindling were supplies if we wanted to use the log burner. Lovely Cottage, equipped with everything you could possibly need. Fabulous location, central to beaches and beautiful countryside. A lovely clean, cosy cottage. The best equipped holiday let weve stayed in. Its also nice not to have to wait until 5 or 6pm to get in. Thoroughly enjoyed our second visit.

The cottage was clean and didn't lack for anything that one would need in a home-from-home holiday. However, a general renewing of paintwork, sealing around washbasins and showers is overdue. Also, the rear garden is so overgrown, that it is not so pleasant to sit there and enjoy.

Lovely, well stocked cottage and friendly owners. The garden was great for dogs - all enclosed. Nice pub down the road and cottage in a beautiful quiet area. Places visited: Beaulieu, Lymington, The Tall Trees Trail, Hatchett Pond, Lyndhurst. Loved seeing all the ponies, donkeys and cows with the run of wherever they wanted!

Border Cottage was a great choice for our 2 couples. The cottage was comfortable and fully fitted out. The village's pubs, cafe, butchers and Coop were easily reached on foot and of top quality. Plenty to do in the area on foot, by bicycle or in the car.

This was a comfortable and pretty property. We chose it because it allows two dogs and has two bathrooms which is a surprisingly rare combination unless you go for a much bigger and more expensive house. Postcard cottage with a lovely, friendly and helpful hostess! So cosy, lovely garden and great bbq equipment! Location is close to the coast and in the new forest itself. We loved it and will definitely stay again!
