There are countless charming Yorkshire towns and villages close by, including Pateley Bridge (4.5 miles) and Ilkely (15 miles) where you'll find, among other delights, the oldest sweet shop in England, a Michelin-starred restaurant and the quintessentially Yorkshire tea room Bettys. Indulge in a buttery fat rascal here before a pleasant stroll along the River Wharfe.

Of course, no trip to this corner of Yorkshire would be complete without a day out in Harrogate. This elegant Victorian spa town is bursting at the seams with antique shops, cafes, independent boutiques and restaurants. And the RHS Gardens at Harlow Carr are a must see too, just a 12-mile drive.

For those of you with a love of food, you'll find no shortage of excellent gastropubs and restaurants in the area, including the fantastic Timble Inn. This luxury 5-star inn/restaurant dates back to the 18th century and is set in the beautiful Washburn Valley around 8 miles from the cottage.
