This charming detached single-storey lodge, sleeping four humans and one pup, is ideally situated to enjoy the stunning surrounding countryside and attractions. Spend the day exploring the nearby Northumberland National Park with your furry friend before returning to your beautiful home-from-home to enjoy a glass of wine in the hot tub and toast to the view.

Recline on the comfortable leather sofas in the lounge area and enjoy a good book as you give Fido a well-deserved belly rub. Head over to the kitchen and prepare a delicious meal to be enjoyed around the dining table. Spill out onto the patio and enjoy drinks and desserts as Rover sniffs around the grass. Tired legs are beckoned by the sumptuous king-size bed at the end of the day. Relax in the calming bedroom and awake refreshed to the sound of birds, then enjoy a morning coffee overlooking the stunning pastures. Plan the day’s adventures at the bistro table after breakfast and watch Fido’s ears prick up at the mention of walkies.

Enjoy being just 3 miles from the lively Scottish town of Kelso. Discover more about its long history as you wander its pretty streets and shop in the handsome market square. Cross the arched bridge, upon which London's Waterloo Bridge is said to be based, and stroll through the ruins of Kelso Abbey. This dates back to the 1100s and was one of Scotland's largest religious houses. Also well worth a visit is Floors Castle, just over 4.5 miles from your cottage. This embodies a wealth of history too and is set in beautiful grounds, including exquisite gardens and areas of woodland.

Keen golfers may wish to play a round or two at Kelso Golf Club, while those keen to walk during their holiday can lace up their boots and head off in almost any direction. Amble through the Cheviot Hills, with a wealth of rivers and waterfalls, as you look out for all sorts of wildlife. Embark upon a section of the 268-mile long Pennine Way, for example, which runs north and south, and crosses the border between England and Scotland. You might also wish to attempt part of St Cuthbert's Way, a shorter, 62.5-mile trail, which takes walkers through some spectacular landscapes and provides as much or little challenge as you require.

Mick & Bev were very welcoming, friendly and hospitable. They gave us lots of information about the local area, with good places to take the kids and dog. We made very good use of the hot tub which was just amazing - especially at night when the stars were out!! Overall a lovely restful week. Hope to be back in the future. :)

My husband and I enjoyed a three night stay in October. We received a warm welcome from the owners, who also provided some guidance on walks in the atea. The king bedroom was lovely and had a very comfy bed. We enjoyed lunch at The Waggon in Kelso and would rate the food and service as 9/10. There is a fanstastic view from the hot tub at Barn Owl
