Escape to this perfect little bolthole in the Lakes, for a romantic break from the real world. With stunning places to visit on your doorstep and charming original features inside, it’s just what the doctor ordered.
Converted from a 17th-century barn the cottage has a rustic country feel, from the exposed beams stretching across the open-plan living space, to the slate floor underneath. Draw the curtains and snuggle up on the comfortable corner sofa while the dogs spread out in front of the toasty wood burner. The compact kitchen has everything you’ll need to rustle up a quick dinner, with a microwave to keep things simple. Take drinks outside on warmer evenings into the enclosed garden to relax under a twinkling sky - you’ll never have seen so many stars! The utility room with washing machine and dryer is fantastic to throw in muddy dog towels and wet socks if the weather is less favourable, and upstairs there’s a cosy bedroom and adjoined bathroom, divided by a pretty screen.
The village of Hawkshead is just 1.5 miles down the lane from the house, with a good selection of shops and cafes, and it’s about the same distance to beautiful Tarn Hows for the popular 2-mile circular walk with some stunning scenery along the way. Take a trip to Ambleside, 5 miles, for a serene boat trip on Windermere (dogs are welcome too), water sports for the more adventurous, or perhaps just a browse around the town itself. Don’t forget to stop for well-deserved refreshments at one of the many dog-friendly pubs and restaurants.
