Property code: LLH08

Set on a quiet cul-de-sac just outside Hawkshead village and with pretty countryside views, this modernised cottage really has the best of both worlds. The house is ideal for small groups of friends or family looking to explore the idyllic Lake District, with ample parking and bike storage, a small garden for furry companions and plenty of space to spread out.

There’s a modern feel throughout the house, with an especially welcoming living/dining room with wood burner, TV and dining table for six. An additional lounge featuring an open fire and second TV means that there’ll be no squabbles over the remote either. Open up the French doors from the dining room to enjoy your morning coffee at one of the two garden seating areas while the dog snuffles around - opt for a secluded leafy table to the rear of the property or enjoy far-reaching views of the village and hills from the front. At the end of a busy day, three comfortable bedrooms will provide a peaceful night’s sleep for everyone.

It’s a 150-metre walk to the centre of the village which has a grocery shop, several pubs and plenty of local stores and cafes. Visit the Beatrix Potter Gallery and the grammar school where William Wordsworth was once a pupil or head off on one of the many walking/cycling trails in the area. Explore Wray Castle on the shores of Lake Windermere, 3 miles away, or walk up to Claife Heights, 6 miles, for some spectacular views over the pristine waters. Take the ferry across or drive the 9 miles to Bowness-on-Windermere town where you can have a wander around or take a leisurely cruise on the lake itself.

Our third stay at Applerigg in Hawkshead. A very comfortable, well appointed house, very close to the Hawkshead village amenities including the very popular Little Ice Cream Shop. With good walks to be had from the door, the car can have a holiday as well.

Had a lovely, relaxing family holiday. Applerigg was perfect for the 5 adults plus dog in a great location. Would visit the house and location again.

Great location, Hawkshead is lovely, quiet but with good pubs and shops. Cottage well-equipped, with lots of space, inc two living rooms. A push for a larger group (our kids are now adults) given there is just one bathroom, but fine for a family. Dog could jump the stone wall so needed to be supervised outside.

As soon as you arrive you feel relaxed and very welcome. The owners have thought of everything you will need for this property so you don't have to. Kitchen is very well equipped, and the bathroom actually had a bath you can fit in! It is perfectly placed on the edge of town, surrounded by walks and local attractions. Placed between two of the bestRead more lakes and close enough to other towns to visit. This is a property we would certainly visit again at any time of year. Hide

Absolutely loved our stay and stuck to being local by that very helpful wallpaper map! Probably explored much more by using that too - great idea! House had everything we needed and the location was spot on! The views of the sheep and the hills are something we will miss. Thank you!

Lovely cottage in a perfect location to explore the lakes and surrounding area. It was well equipped and very comfortable. Im not normally fascinated with sheep, but ended up watching the herdwick sheep every day they were in the field next to the cottage. If youre wanting to eat in the local pubs in Hawkshead, I would recommend booking ahead, as wRead moree couldnt get a reservation towards the end of our stay. Hide

We have been to Applerigg many times as it is in a good location has its own parking and is bright and easily worked. My only comments would be that after 9 years of visiting it would be nice to see some fresh curtains! Also missed a touch of festive spirit this year as no Christmas tree or any sign of the season. Sadly, Hawkshead itself is sufferiRead moreng the fate of many villages with closed shops and pubs, but the fells never disappoint so won't rule out visiting again. Hide
