Set in the village square, it is the perfect escape for a small family or a couple and their beloved canine. Sleeping four across two bedrooms, this Grade C listed townhouse is just the right size. Located close to the banks of the River Beauly, you can enjoy peaceful strolls beside the water to more challenging rambles through the nearby hills. With such easy access to beautiful walks, you would be barking mad not to invite your canine companion on this family holiday.

A warm welcome awaits as you step through the door into this charming cottage. A stylish open-plan lounge/diner has been decorated with bright colours and contemporary furnishings. After a day on your feet, the cosy sofa looks very inviting while a perfect spot on the floor has Fido’s name on it. Don’t forget to pack his favourite bed or blanket, so that he feels right at home. As you prepare dinner in the kitchen, you can enjoy views over the old priory. Treat yourself to a film in bed or a lie in watching morning TV with both the king-size and the double complete with TVs.

Beauly offers a real Scottish welcome with shops selling knitwear, tweeds and crafts in the bustling square. Keen anglers can combine peaceful riverside walks with a spot of fishing, licenses are available from the ironmongers. If your canine isn’t one to stay still for long though, they might need to sit this one out. Further afield, hop in the car and enjoy a scenic road trip to Glen Affric (17 miles), renowned for its natural beauty. Loch Ness (25.5 miles) and Glen Urquhart Castle (15.5 miles) are all well worth a visit too. For a taste of city life, head to Inverness (15.5 miles) from the local train station - your dog too!

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Beautiful Beauly is known for its scenic setting and numerous walks around and from the village. Take a circular 5.5-mile walk on the heights above Beauly and look down upon the peaceful stretch of water of Loch nam Bonnach. Explore the ruins of Beauly Priory, once a church of a little-known order of monks and now with links to the Outlander book and TV series. Go fishing in the River Beauly, said to be one of the best Scottish salmon rivers.

Otherwise, drive just over 13.5 miles to the city of Inverness to browse in the Victorian Market and other shopping areas; make sure you visit the castle and St Andrew's Cathedral, while you are here. Venture some 12 miles to Drumnadrochit by Loch Ness where you can spend time at the famous Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition or buy a ticket to head out on to the water yourself to see if you can spot anything mysterious. Stop at Nessieland to explore its caves and visit the adventure playground. Striking Urquhart Castle, almost 17 miles from your base, is also close by and is well worth a trip. These beautiful ruins sit on a rocky promontory, overlooking out over the loch and embodying centuries of history. Head up to the battlements and pause to gaze down into the prison area.
