Originally a blacksmith’s workshop, this charming three-bedroom cottage still retains much of its old-world character. Located in the heart of Lynton yet set back from the main road, it’s the perfect base for a small family plus two hounds seeking coastal walks, seaside activities and dog-friendly amenities.
High-vaulted ceilings and original oak beams contrast strikingly with brilliant white walls, contemporary soft furnishings, and pendant lighting. After a day of exploring step into the open-plan lounge, settle back on the sofa with a film and let Fido snooze in front of the wood burner. When mealtimes beckon, you can enjoy a casual bite to eat at the kitchen breakfast bar, or for more sociable family meals gather at the dining table. Three bedrooms are located upstairs and feature a mix of quirky and comfortable double and single beds. The double bed on the mezzanine floor boasts a beautiful skylight and is where the iron was originally stored. Although there is no outdoor space, cliff-top paths and the wooded hills of Exmoor National Park are within walking distance from the property.
Lynton is a pretty Victorian village with a selection of dog-friendly pubs. The Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway is situated here, and if you and Fido have a head for heights, hop on the train and enjoy a ride over Lynmouth Bay. Alternatively, clip on a lead and enjoy a 1-mile walk to the Valley of Rocks. It’s a scenic coastal walk and you’ll spot wild goats on the way. Doone Valley (6 miles) is also worth a visit and here Fido can scamper through woodland, across moors and splash in the river.
