Property code: OC-SMITHY

Originally a blacksmith’s workshop, this charming three-bedroom cottage still retains much of its old-world character. Located in the heart of Lynton yet set back from the main road, it’s the perfect base for a small family plus two hounds seeking coastal walks, seaside activities and dog-friendly amenities.

High-vaulted ceilings and original oak beams contrast strikingly with brilliant white walls, contemporary soft furnishings, and pendant lighting. After a day of exploring step into the open-plan lounge, settle back on the sofa with a film and let Fido snooze in front of the wood burner. When mealtimes beckon, you can enjoy a casual bite to eat at the kitchen breakfast bar, or for more sociable family meals gather at the dining table. Three bedrooms are located upstairs and feature a mix of quirky and comfortable double and single beds. The double bed on the mezzanine floor boasts a beautiful skylight and is where the iron was originally stored. Although there is no outdoor space, cliff-top paths and the wooded hills of Exmoor National Park are within walking distance from the property.

Lynton is a pretty Victorian village with a selection of dog-friendly pubs. The Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway is situated here, and if you and Fido have a head for heights, hop on the train and enjoy a ride over Lynmouth Bay. Alternatively, clip on a lead and enjoy a 1-mile walk to the Valley of Rocks. It’s a scenic coastal walk and you’ll spot wild goats on the way. Doone Valley (6 miles) is also worth a visit and here Fido can scamper through woodland, across moors and splash in the river.

A perfect location, close to pubs, places to eat and walks, a interesting and lovely house with great traditional and modern fixtures and fittings. The old front door looks so great, the high ceilings and then the modern kitchen make for the ideal base.

We had a lovely stay at The Smithy. It is in a great location and a truly unique property. We had a cosy New Year with the log burner on watching the fireworks!

We loved staying in this property! It was very characterful, had everything we needed, and was perfectly located within Lynton. It was very clean and the beds were super comfy. The only negative was it was very cold in the property when we arrived, Noteably, it was one of the coldest days of the year - within a couple of hours with the heating on iRead moret was comfortable. Despite this, we would visit again and recommend it to others. Hide

The Smithy was not only so convenient to everywhere, it was extremely cosy, beautifully quirky, with its little bits of history around. We would have loved to return over the Christmas period but, as we thought it would be, it is already booked up for then. We would certainly go back there.

I have stayed at The Smithy a few times and it has never disappointed. I have given a slightly lower score in terms of quality and equipment as the bedding for the single bed was all in double size. This meant that over night the sheet and mattress protector moved across the bed creating huge folds and creases, and the double duvet kept sliding oRead moreff the bed. The wardrobes, particularly in the smaller bedroom, were a bit shabby and worn with large areas of paint free or bare wood. The vale is on the whole good, but I do think that a non-refundable damage charge of 20 is a bit steep. Theres no reason why the 20 couldnt be refundable or absorbed in the cost. The Smithys black bin isnt labelled so we used the first empty bin available., but no one seemed to mind. Hide

Thanks we loved the house and the facilities were good. A minor issue that was disappointing, was the lack of consumables eg we were only left 2 rolls of toilet paper which wasn't particularly good quality and no where near enough for 3 adults for 5 nights, 2 dishwasher tablets, no replacement bin bag, and no washing machine detergent. We thereforeRead more had to purchase these items. I just feel that if you had been more generous on these minor items, which are relatively cheap, it would complete the positive experience and not cause unnecessary shopping trips and frustration for your visitors. Property was gorgeous, we loved our stay and didn't want to leave. The communication ahead of our arrival was really helpful, we had all we needed and more. The property was well equipped for our stay. Would have been useful to have more supplies for a seven night stay: there were less loo rolls, dishwasher tablets, dish cloths and tea towels thanRead more we'd expect. But that's fairly minor. Thank you for a brilliant holiday, we'd love to come back! Hide
