Return from picturesque walks with your delighted dog to bask out in the Suffolk sunshine and take in the glorious views. This magical retreat, near Peasenhall, 5 miles from Saxmundham, makes an idyllic retreat for couples and their canine companions. Originally a barn, the one-bedroom abode sleeps two guests and nestles in tranquil countryside yet is also within reach of the beautiful Suffolk Heritage Coast. There is also a well-stocked lake here for those who enjoy fishing.

Arrive back after your exciting forays to rinse muddy paws under the outside tap and towel down your furry friend. Make your way into the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner to light the wood burner to warm cold paws and feet on autumn and winter days. Watch TV, read your book and let your happy hound daydream about his latest adventure. During the warmer months, pull open the glass doors in here instead and let your chum pad in and out from the enclosed garden. There is a pull-down bed in here too. Whip up hearty feasts for all members of your party - including those with four legs - over in the kitchen area, then dine inside or out. Take the stairs up to the first floor to find the double bedroom and en-suite shower room. As well as your courtyard garden, there is a shepherd’s hut here to sit out in. There is also ample space for cycles and parking for up to four cars.

Pack a picnic, grab some water and dog treats, and head straight out into your scenic surroundings to explore. Plan a trip to Dunwich, 8.5 miles away, where not only can you and your chum play on the beach without restriction, but you can also wander through the 215 acres of attractive heathland that is owned by the National Trust.

We had a lovely stay at Barn Owl Retreat. As our dog has got older & unable to walk far it has been difficult to find a suitable holiday stay. Excellent cottage for our stay in Suffolk. Spacious living area with comfortable sofas. The bedroom was roomy with a comfortable bed and plenty of storage space. This is an outstanding cottage for two, possible three (with the pull down bed). We enjoyed a really comfortable and relaxing short break at Barn Owl Cottage. The cottage is nicely furnished, well equipped (even with a laundry bin) and has a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. We also enjoyed the log burner. From the garden there is a lovely view across the fields and the bird feeders in the garden were well occupied by all sorts ofRead more garden birds, including a greater spotted woodpecker. We saw deer in the field, but unfortunately no barn owl although we did hear him/her. There is much to visit including Sutton Hoo, Southwold, Dunwich, etc. Both we and our dog enjoyed a lovely autumn walk at nearby Pound Farm. Everyday essentials (including extra firewood!) can be bought at the post office/shop in the nearby village. Excellent. Hide

The kitchen has a decent selection of equipment to use. The garden was securely enclosed, which was perfect for our dog and we loved the variety of birds that fed from the feeders everydaysadly didnt see any owls, though heard one once. The accommodation is located fairly close to a selection of beaches, most which were dog-friendly. The closest pub is The White Horse at Sibton, approx 2-3 miles away, but was closed when we went there as it doesnt open until 6pm, but there are others slightly further afield that open earlier. The Sole Bay Fish Company in Southwold sell delicious fish and chips, so highly recommended - though the shop at the harbour closes at 3pm. Overall, we had a lovely time staying here and would recommend the accommodation. Hide

Very lovely cottage, well equipped and great location for visiting the Suffolk coast. The dog enjoyed looking through the fence at the rabbits in the next field; we enjoyed watching the birds on the feeders, and trying to count how many species of bumble bee were on the lavender (at least 5 types).

We booked this cottage as just a get away for the two of us over Christmas, but my wifes mother took ill so I asked if we could also have the parents in law with us for a couple of days. This was accommodated immediately and it gave us all peace of mind. The fold down bed in the lounge was great and they both said it was very comfortable. The proRead moreperty is well maintained and well equipped and we had all the equipment necessary for our stay. Only comment Id make is maybe have a roll of clingfilm and foil amongst the consumables. Its something weve always had supplied at previous properties and weve probably done 60 stays over the last 3 or 4 years. Everything else was great. More than enough dishwasher tablets and cleaning products and enough books in the quite substantial library to occupy you for a year. The enclosed garden area was great with the dogs and we didnt have to worry about them getting out. The cottage is well located and is close enough to most tourist sites, but far enough away to not get all the traffic. Hide
