Well equipped and attractive character cottage in a quiet location. Two telephone engineers and a new modem arrived during our stay. After that the internet worked very well. We weren't much troubled by low ceilings or doorways. There was only one doorway where I (at 5ft 6in) had to be a bit cautious! Other reviewers have exaggerated the problems, Read moreI feel! Instructions for some of the equipment could have been clearer, but in a wet week in October we were glad that the electric woodburner was operable without difficulty and we could snuggle up on the sofa to watch the large tv! Easy to get out to Braunton, Barnstaple, Saunton, Bideford, Woolacombe, Ilfracombe and environs by car, with Braunton (for public transport) and a pub within walking distance. Hide

Lovely traditional and characterful thatched cottage. Tonnes of traditional features, slightly spoilt with modern add-ons in every room but necessary I guess due to lodging regulations. If you are over 5ft 4in you will be bending down throughout the cottage. Stays both warm and cool due to layout, walls and roof - a charming feature. Sited in aRead more quiet little village, set on top of a hill near a lovely church. Provides a great base to venture out from. 15 - 20 mins car trips to get to Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Barnstaple. Car / walking distance to Braunton. 30 mins to Bideford. Some lovely local walks for all, including dogs, as long as you don't mind hills. Great local pub 12 mins walk away at Williams Arms. Hide

This was a last minute booking so I should have done my homework. Lovely cottage but it's not suitable for anyone over 5ft 2 . We were constantly stooping through doorways and had to crouch in the shower to get wet. I would not recommend to anyone with children under 7 or anyone with mobility issues.

Cosy and very old. We loved our stay, though you have to learn to walk around bent double to avoid banging your head in the doorways. A place we'd enjoy returning to!

We had a lovely week staying at Monks cottage. It's located in a quiet area but still close enough to shops, pub and restaurants. The garden was an added bonus which our dogs loved and looked well cared for. The downside was the very slow WIFI, no reception on phones inside either. The ceilings are very low and we did bang our heads a few times. ClRead moreattering up the stairs with the hoover was very challenging as steps very uneven and low doorways. Only had to do it once though so all good. Would recommend if you can live without proper WIFI and are the size of a hobbit. Hide

The cottage could do with some TLC. Mirrors left on windowsills with sun reflection these can cause fires, not good with a thatched roof.

Quirky cottage in a fairly isolated location. The local pub, the Williams Arms, was very good but walk is down/up very steep hill on narrow road with no pavement. Cottage has good facilities, except wifi. There is a router but still the signal is very weak. There is a tiny tv which has Netflix but the signal wasn't strong enough to actually launch Read moreNetflix. Heating is storage heaters so very little control, 2 of the bedrooms were incredibly hot!
