It won’t be hard to de-stress at this two-bed stone cottage in the village of Melmerby with glorious uninterrupted views of the Yorkshire Dales. And with two furry friends also allowed, you’ll be in your element. The only pressure in your day will be which of the myriad walks to try out or quaint villages to visit first! This is one of two quaint cottages converted from old farm buildings and both are next to the owner’s former farmhouse. It’s equally suited to a small family or one or two couples looking to lead the way to adventure with their canine companions in tow.
Downstairs, this bright and airy cottage has an open-plan layout, with soft sofa seating surrounding the wood burner in its impressive stone chimney breast. All this is under a beamed ceiling and with a dining table area at the end of the room. Around the corner is the comprehensive kitchen for those holiday cooking endeavours. Upstairs is the family bathroom, complete with a bath for luxurious soaks alongside one double and one twin bedroom. They’re both individually decorated in calming tones. Back downstairs, the small conservatory is the entrance point to the house (be sure to keep some dog towels here!) and affords stunning views over the shared garden and beautiful countryside beyond. There’s also a secure courtyard patio.
Open moors and country rambles are abundant throughout Coverdale, starting almost literally from the cottage. You can combine walkies with a meal at the local within 1 mile. Well-behaved woofers are welcome. The pretty market town of Leyburn (5 miles) serves as the northern gateway to the Yorkshire Dales National Park and offers cafes, eateries, independent shops and pubs. While you’re there, hop aboard the Wensleydale Railway heritage line that runs between Scruton and Redmire. They do special doggy fares too!
