Tucked away off one of Whitby’s cobbled streets, this coastal bolthole is the perfect place to switch off. The property sleeps four guests and one pup, and, with a bunk bedroom, it particularly suits a small family, although the full-size beds can also accommodate adults. The cottage is in Whitby’s old town, meaning you’ll have a fantastic selection of independent eateries on your doorstep. In the evening, return to your cosy cottage for a sundowner in the enclosed garden.
A flight of 23 steps leads to the elevated cottage. Once inside, discover a welcoming holiday home with a lovely mixture of contemporary decor and period features. At the heart of the home is the cosy lounge, where you can unwind to watch the TV/DVD and Fido can curl up on the rug by the electric fire. The kitchen/diner has space for the dog bed and a pastel-coloured table to gather around for evenings of great food and laughter. The bunk bedroom, with two full-size single beds, is also located on the ground floor, along with the family bathroom. Upstairs, a double bedroom is set in the eaves (just watch out for the restricted head height in some areas) and enjoys distant sea views. Outside, there is an enclosed garden where the hound can potter and you can dine alfresco.
Whitby is rich in history, and during your stay, you must climb the historic 199 steps to the 12th-century church and explore the evocative ruins of Whitby Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The area is awash with walking routes to enjoy with your canine chum, including a wild and rugged coastal path to the picturesque village of Robin Hood’s Bay (7 miles). From Whitby, you can take day trips to Scarborough and Staithes (within 20 miles).
