Property code: OC-DRUM

Relax and unwind in this charming 17th-century cottage in the heart of historic Appledore and enjoy a wonderful blend of old-meets-new in a lovingly renovated home. Perfect for a couple or a family alongside a couple of canines, this is the ideal base to explore the coast and country of glorious North Devon.

With a masterful combination of modern comfort alongside preserved original features, this delightful cottage will have you feeling instantly at home. The sociable open-plan kitchen/diner is a fantastic addition to the cottage, making it easy to spend quality time with loved ones in this bright and airy space. Outside, the enclosed garden has a distinctly tropical feel, with a sun deck set under swaying palms and a patio dining set that is the perfect place for a spot of alfresco dining whilst Rover explores the area. As the night draws in, retire to the cosy living room with exposed wooden beams overhead, plenty of sofa seating and a warming wood burner that Fido is sure to adore. At the end of the day, take a relaxing soak in the stylish bathroom, then head up the stairs to bed in one of two bright and breezy bedrooms.

It’s easy to see why Appledore is a firm favourite with locals and holidaymakers alike. Its pretty streets are lined with galleries, restaurants, tearooms and cafes, and you should make sure you visit some of the excellent local pubs, where four-legged friends are welcome to join you at the bar. Take a ride onboard the seasonal ferry across to Instow and head to the huge sandy beach. In the summer months, there is a dog restriction zone on Instow Beach, but there is plenty of space outside of this area for pups to roam year-round. Alternatively, the northern end of Westward Ho! Beach offers year-round unrestricted doggie access, 2.5 miles away. Nearby Exmoor National Park is home to some of the country’s most dramatic scenery and offers walkies of a lifetime over high tors and through pretty wooded valleys. To experience life in a traditional North Devon fishing village, take the 13-mile road to Clovelly and visit this unique cliffside preservation project with cobbled streets leading to a picturesque harbour, where dogs on leads can join you too.

We have stayed in a lit of cottages and this rates right up there. The location was fantastic and the added bonus of an allocated parking space was really convenient. It had the best of both worlds with a lovely cottage feel in the living room and bedrooms but with a modern kitchen, dining room and conservatory. The cottage is one of the besRead moret equipped one that we have ever stayed in. We will almost certainly be returning as we had such a great week, even storm Ciaran couldn't spoil it. Hide

The weather wasn't the greatest but the cottage was so cosy and comfortable that we were able to relax with plenty of spaces to sit and relax with the family and our dog. Drum cottage was spotless, the beds were comfortable and the rooms airy - if we required anything it was good to know that there was a local contact although not required. There wRead moreere some great local restaurants and useful information for ordering online in the kitchen. Some lovely pubs with live music plus walks for the dog and great places to visit not far from Appledore - we were well placed to explore North Devon including the local beaches and so much more. We really felt we were home from home and thoroughly enjoyed our stay despite only a few sunny days and recommend Drum cottage which is truly an old historic dwelling which used to be a pub but with all the mod cons. beautifully decorated cottage , ideal location for walking into Appledore or as a base for the wider area. The addition of the parking permit was extremely valuable as parking is limited. Especially loved the converseratory at the back of the cottage it was light and airy. The stairs are quirky , I would not recommend for the infirm or those withRead more toddlers or young children. The cottage is on practically on the road , so again care needed with young children and dogs. Hide
