Relax and unwind in this charming 17th-century cottage in the heart of historic Appledore and enjoy a wonderful blend of old-meets-new in a lovingly renovated home. Perfect for a couple or a family alongside a couple of canines, this is the ideal base to explore the coast and country of glorious North Devon.
With a masterful combination of modern comfort alongside preserved original features, this delightful cottage will have you feeling instantly at home. The sociable open-plan kitchen/diner is a fantastic addition to the cottage, making it easy to spend quality time with loved ones in this bright and airy space. Outside, the enclosed garden has a distinctly tropical feel, with a sun deck set under swaying palms and a patio dining set that is the perfect place for a spot of alfresco dining whilst Rover explores the area. As the night draws in, retire to the cosy living room with exposed wooden beams overhead, plenty of sofa seating and a warming wood burner that Fido is sure to adore. At the end of the day, take a relaxing soak in the stylish bathroom, then head up the stairs to bed in one of two bright and breezy bedrooms.
It’s easy to see why Appledore is a firm favourite with locals and holidaymakers alike. Its pretty streets are lined with galleries, restaurants, tearooms and cafes, and you should make sure you visit some of the excellent local pubs, where four-legged friends are welcome to join you at the bar. Take a ride onboard the seasonal ferry across to Instow and head to the huge sandy beach. In the summer months, there is a dog restriction zone on Instow Beach, but there is plenty of space outside of this area for pups to roam year-round. Alternatively, the northern end of Westward Ho! Beach offers year-round unrestricted doggie access, 2.5 miles away. Nearby Exmoor National Park is home to some of the country’s most dramatic scenery and offers walkies of a lifetime over high tors and through pretty wooded valleys. To experience life in a traditional North Devon fishing village, take the 13-mile road to Clovelly and visit this unique cliffside preservation project with cobbled streets leading to a picturesque harbour, where dogs on leads can join you too.
