Relax and unwind in this charming 17th-century cottage in the heart of historic Appledore and enjoy a wonderful blend of old-meets-new in a lovingly renovated home. Perfect for a couple or a family alongside a couple of canines, this is the ideal base to explore the coast and country of glorious North Devon.

With a masterful combination of modern comfort alongside preserved original features, this delightful cottage will have you feeling instantly at home. The sociable open-plan kitchen/diner is a fantastic addition to the cottage, making it easy to spend quality time with loved ones in this bright and airy space. Outside, the enclosed garden has a distinctly tropical feel, with a sun deck set under swaying palms and a patio dining set that is the perfect place for a spot of alfresco dining whilst Rover explores the area. As the night draws in, retire to the cosy living room with exposed wooden beams overhead, plenty of sofa seating and a warming wood burner that Fido is sure to adore. At the end of the day, take a relaxing soak in the stylish bathroom, then head up the stairs to bed in one of two bright and breezy bedrooms.

It’s easy to see why Appledore is a firm favourite with locals and holidaymakers alike. Its pretty streets are lined with galleries, restaurants, tearooms and cafes, and you should make sure you visit some of the excellent local pubs, where four-legged friends are welcome to join you at the bar. Take a ride onboard the seasonal ferry across to Instow and head to the huge sandy beach. In the summer months, there is a dog restriction zone on Instow Beach, but there is plenty of space outside of this area for pups to roam year-round. Alternatively, the northern end of Westward Ho! Beach offers year-round unrestricted doggie access, 2.5 miles away. Nearby Exmoor National Park is home to some of the country’s most dramatic scenery and offers walkies of a lifetime over high tors and through pretty wooded valleys. To experience life in a traditional North Devon fishing village, take the 13-mile road to Clovelly and visit this unique cliffside preservation project with cobbled streets leading to a picturesque harbour, where dogs on leads can join you too.

Fourth time staying in Appledore and first time at Drum Cottage. Bonus with outside space and car parking nearby for the duration of stay! Great kitchen /living space at the back of the cottage, which was very peaceful. As mentioned previously, the stairs to the bedrooms maybe a task for some people, as they are steep ( as are most of the AppledRead moreore cottages ) but there are a couple of handles and a rope to help to get up or down! The main bedroom having a lot of storage and space and a comfortable bed. The front lounge has very low ceilings which made it feel cosy and definitely warmer with a great wood burner! We had a lovely stay, eating mainly out at the local places and enjoyable walks to Westward Ho! via North Burrows, a drive over to Instow beach and day out in Bude. Hide

We had a lovely week at Drum Cottage. The Cottage is very comfortable and welcoming- the weather wasn't in our favour but we still had a great week. It wasn't cold enough for the log burner but I can imagine how cosy it would be in the colder months. The Cottage has a lot of mod cons and a lovely decking area to sit in the good weather. Our dogRead more loved it here but it is on a busy road so be careful leaving and entering the cottage. Our car was parked free a few steps up the hill in a car park that was organised by the owner. We ate out a few nights but we did have a few meals at the cottage too and watched the TV that had lots of channels to choose from. The washing machine was a bonus as we got wet most days too. Appledore is a beautiful village and it's easy to go to local places like Instow and Westward Ho too. Also we enjoyed visiting Clovelly village and Bude. We would definitely recommend Drum Cottage for a lovely break. Hide

17c century cottage in a perfect location. Beds comfortable. Nice extension and conservatory. A Very Steep Original Winding Saircase with a rope to hold onto going up and downstairs and Not Suitable for young children. Sitting room and sofas smelled damp and musty continuously despite windows being open .

A spacious cottage full of character, ideally located in a quiet village in north Devon. The stairs and low ceilings may be an issue for tall people. The allocated parking space is brilliant and located just a short walk up the hill . The welcome pack was very generous.
