This serene one-bed retreat overlooking Loch Ewe is glorious for a restorative couples’ break with your furry companion. It’s located within the scenic grounds of Pool House, a characterful home surrounded by fantastic dog-walking and cycling trails. Your pet can lead the way along the breathtaking coastal paths offering views of the Outer Hebrides, and help you sniff out historical sites including WWII coastal batteries. When you’re all worn out, head home for a soak in the hot tub while your pet stretches out on the grass nearby.

Inside, an open-plan, studio-style layout features a charming cathedral ceiling and a king-size bed encased in a cosy wooden-panelled structure. Warmed by the crackling wood burner, unwind in this delightful space, kicking back on the sofa or lying in bed with a book. In the adjacent shepherd’s hut, you’ll find an adorable kitchen/diner decked out in a retro style, offering wonderful views as you tuck into meals. Your dog will love relaxing with you outside, where there’s a patio and furniture along with the hot tub – perfect for taking in your serene surroundings.

Locally, you’ll have a cafe, hotel with a bar/restaurant, and swimming pool within 0.5 miles, and a few more amenities 6.5 miles away in Strath. Writers retreat is a charming place to stay, cosy, comfortable and private with a beautiful outlook over Loch Ewe. It was fun having the separate caravan for meals and dining and was well equipped, considering its size. Inverewe gardens and estate are a short walk away. We would highly recommend Writers Retreat..

I absolutely loved my stay at The Writer's Cottage, Pool House, Poolewe. It is my second visit and I enjoyed it as much as the first stay. During my stay, I saw a deer, 4 wild ponies, 2 otters swimming and a daily visit by a Heron. I also was treated to an early morning tap on the window by a Great Tit and a Chaffinch. It is absolutely beautiful.

The cottage and facilities were clean, comfy and cosy. The cottage was well maintained with everything you could need available. The views were amazing being right on the water. If your looking for a quiet getaway in the heart of the Highlands then it is ideal.
