Perfect for doggie-loving couples or solo travellers, this charming shepherd’s hut is set on the edge of a working farm in beautiful North Devon. It’s one of two properties on the site, both surrounded by far-reaching countryside views. To get supplies and perhaps enjoy lunch out, head into the market town of Bideford (2.5). If your pet loves the seaside, take her to the sandy shores of Westward Ho! (6 miles), heading to the north end of the beach where she can roam freely all year round.
You’ll climb three steps up to reach the entrance of this sweet hideaway. Inside, the space has been lovingly made into an open-plan living area for you and your pet to relax in. There’s a comfortable seating space with a TV, a kitchen area, a dining table for relaxed meals and a double sleeping area. Thanks to underfloor heating and a wood burner, you’ll feel warm and cosy all through the year. A shower room with a WC completes the indoor section. Outside, your dog can stretch her legs in the private enclosed garden while you soak up the spectacular views. You’ll have sun loungers, a picnic bench for outdoor dining, a hot tub and a fire pit for indulgent evenings beneath the stars. Private parking for one car is available beside the hut, accessed via the farmyard and a short single-track lane.
From the farm’s surrounding woods and fields, you can stroll down to the River Torridge for an easy dog walk. At Bideford you can join the popular Tarka Trail, a traffic-free route ideal for scenic walks and cycle rides. The pretty village of Instow (5 miles) is well worth a visit, with its dog-friendly beach (some seasonal restrictions apply), attractive quay and estuary walks your pet will love. Alternatively, enjoy a more leisurely day exploring the beautiful grounds of Tapeley Park (3.5 miles), where dogs on leads are welcome to join you.
