Embrace the rugged beauty of The Lizard Peninsula in this former chapel just outside the fishing village of Porthallow. The single-storey home sleeps two guests and one waggy-tailed pal, and makes a great base for couples or solo travellers exploring this picturesque corner of West Cornwall. The South West Coast Path passes just 1 mile away, offering endless opportunities for walkies, and Porthallow’s shingle beach welcomes woofers all year.
The 19th-century property has a studio-style layout, with the accommodation arranged across one level. Inside, the lounge/kitchen/diner/bedroom boasts a high, vaulted ceiling and characterful exposed beams, with a collection of creature comforts to ensure your stay is as relaxed as possible. At one end is a stylish kitchen area for whipping up dinners for two, which you can share at the sweet dining table. In the evenings, snuggle up on the sofa, with the hound curled at your feet, to watch a movie on the Smart TV. When day turns to night, sink into the sumptuous king-size bed. A refreshing shower room rounds off the interior. Outside, you and your furry sidekick can unwind in the attractive cottage garden, surrounded by mature shrubs and plants. You’ll have a choice of seating areas and there’s also a firepit under a pretty pergola. Private parking is provided for two cars.
There are some excellent walks to enjoy from Porthallow, including to Nare Head, where the views are truly breathtaking. After a bracing walk, refuel in the village’s paw-friendly pub. Many of the beaches on The Lizard Peninsula welcome canine visitors, including the picture-postcard Kennack Sands (9 miles) with its golden sand and turquoise waters. Further afield, take a day trip to the traditional Cornish town of Helston (11 miles) to admire the beautiful Georgian architecture and potter around the cute boutiques and gift shops.
