Just call this cottage your home on the Scottish Borders. Perfect for a family of four and its furry counterparts, this traditional stone cottage sits within 3,000 acres of stunning countryside on the Ellemford Country Estate. Explore the grounds or chill out in your own sizable enclosed garden. Or if you really want to tire those pups out, give them a walk they’ll dream about for years to come by trekking the Southern Upland Way, a coast-to-coast adventure from Portpatrick to Cockburnspath.

The property itself is a pretty period cottage. On the ground floor is a comfortable sitting room with a wood burner for extra cosiness, a kitchen including washing machine and microwave, and, for the competitive members of the group, a games room with a PlayStation 3. Up the cottage style steep stairs, you’ll find a double and a twin room, both with inspiring views to wake up to. Take your morning coffee at the front of the house, where a patio area looks over the Whiteadder River.

Your humans will also appreciate the many weird and wonderful things to do beyond the estate. Fish trout and salmon on the River Whiteadder. Explore the historic town of Duns, 6 miles away, which hosts a jolly market square, a scattering of delightful coffee shops and traditional pubs, and a miniature museum dedicated to motor racing legend Jim Clark. An 8-mile drive will take you to the remains of an Iron Age fort, Edin’s Hall Broch, which casts a dramatic atmosphere over the heather-strewn Scottish Borders.

Comfortable cottage though quite basic for the money. We found we wanted to go to the coast each day so the location wasn't perfect for us but the views are pretty anxious it's peaceful.

Cottage was just perfect. Very comfortable and cosy. Ideal for us and the dogs. Kitchen well equipped tho could maybe do with couple more dishes to cook with, Lovely to have really luxurious towels, and shower was amazing. Cottage was warm and we even turned heating off most days, just putting on when needed. Utility room was a great additioRead moren with a small freezer. Garden was just what we wanted for the dogs, secure with amazing views. They loved it, The issue we had was getting them in! We ate out on the picnic bench most days, weather permitting. One piece of advice, take binoculars as the wildlife is incredible and spent many evenings just watching the heron fishing and the hares playing from the window. Look forward to going again Hide
