This characterful, period property is in the quaint village of Flookburgh, on Cumbria’s Cartmel Peninsula. The cottage welcomes five guests and two canine buddies, and suits both families and groups of friends. Nearby doggy days out include Cartmel Racecourse, Holker Hall, and Grizedale Forest (all within 12 miles). After a day of adventure, you and your four-pawed friends can relax next to one of two roaring wood burners.
The 17th-century home-away-from-home effortlessly blends original features, such as exposed oak beams, with contemporary furniture and accessories. Step inside and into the lounge, where a cosy wood burner offers a warm welcome after a walk with the dogs. Unwind here on one of the plump sofas and catch up on your favourite programmes on the Smart TV or read a few pages from one of the books provided. From here, move through to the farmhouse-style kitchen, with its stunning beamed ceiling and all the equipment needed for a self-catering holiday. There’s also a breakfast bar here for sitting with a morning coffee as you plan the day’s itinerary. Just off the kitchen is a handy utility room. The separate dining room is a delightful spot to gather for family mealtimes, and is also a great place to set up the dog beds, with hard flooring and a warming wood burner. The main staircase leads to a half landing with a little reading nook next to the window before a further step takes you to the family bathroom which features an indulgent, roll-top bath (please note, the bath is deep and care should be taken when climbing in). Also on this level is a single bedroom, with a small staircase leading to the two remaining bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite shower room. To the rear of the cottage, discover a small courtyard with a bench and furniture for outdoor dining in the summer months. Stone steps lead from the courtyard to the back street, so children and dogs must be supervised when outside. The property has on-street parking, subject to availability.
Journey into Cartmel (2 miles) to potter amongst its pretty, medieval streets, admiring the beautiful architecture before popping into one of the many woof-welcoming cafes, pubs, or restaurants. Don’t forget to sample the village’s famous sticky toffee pudding during your visit! For a blast of sea air, head to Grange-over-Sands (3 miles) to stroll along the promenade and admire the tranquil views across Morecambe Bay. Further afield, spend the day exploring the breathtaking Lake District scenery, with a cruise on Lake Windermere (8 miles) or a hike to the top of The Old Man of Coniston (20 miles).
