This attractive Grade II-listed period property is located in the Eden District village of Shap, between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Retaining much of its original character, the property has been given an update sympathetic to the origins of the home while bringing it up to modern standards. Those with canine chums will be amazed at the wealth of walks found nearby, so keeping a water bottle and bowl handy when travelling is a must. This family home is ideal for up to six guests and one dog, having three bedrooms in its charming space.

Enter via a spacious hallway with plenty of room for boots, coats and dog leads before you’ll discover a grand and impressive space with a desk and soft seating to perch and ponder the day’s adventures. The lounge retains many original features including a ceiling rose, panelling and a large picture window where you can enjoy the views of the garden. A farmhouse kitchen has everything you should need to create a family meal for everyone, including your four-legged friend. The bedrooms can be found on the floors above, with a steep, narrow staircase leading to a further floor with the final bedroom in the loft conversion. The outside of the property has a private, split-level enclosed garden with patio furniture where you can lounge and enjoy a morning coffee.

If you fancy heading out for the day, plan a trip to explore the sights and walking routes of the Yorkshire Dales (20 miles). Adrenalin junkies will love the opportunity for water sports on Lake Windermere (24 miles). This is a place of adventure and fun should you wish to encounter it.

This was our our first time visiting the lake district and found this to be a brilliant location. There is a handy Co-Op in the village and a chippy. The house was warm and comfortable, with a lovely fully enclosed rear garden which was great for our dog. The dedicated parking space at the front of the house was big enough for two cars. This cottage was a lovely base for our holiday, there was plenty of room for six adults and our dogs. The kitchen became the centre of social activities in the evenings as we made good use of the large kitchen table, if we wanted to be more relaxed the seats in the living room were excellent. Lovely house, well decorated, great period features, felt so welcoming and cosy. The weather was mostly cold and wet so we were v grateful we could snuggle up in the beautiful living room in front of the fire at the end of the day. Great selection of jigsaws and games and the kitchen had all the essentials and more. We spent a week in this cottage with family. It was perfectly placed to explore the Lake District. The rooms were a very good size and we had plenty of room for 6 adults and a dog. It's a lovely cottage in a great location. Ideal for us (two couples with two dogs) and plenty of places to walk nearby. We would definitely consider returning, if only to visit the chippy, which was closed for the duration of our stay.

Charming cottage thats very spacious. 6 of us stayed for a week and we had plenty of space together or to get away from each other of we wanted to. Granddaughters loved all the reading nooks and window seats. Only thing missing from the highly equipped kitchen was a measuring jug , but we survived . Love it staying here

Beautiful old building. We particularly loved the spectacular staircase. The entrance to the cottage drive can be a challenge to find, and extra care is needed when exiting the driveway due to reduced visibility. The cottage is in need of some exterior tlc, but the interior is welcoming and well equipped. Beautiful cosy cottage! It had everything and more that we needed. The central heating is effective throughout the house and the log burner gas fire warms up the sitting area quickly. There are a number of different places to sit, including at the top of the stunning staircase where you can look out over the garden. Beds are very comfortable too. The cottage was in a good position. There are lots of DVDs, a few books and games. There are a few maintenance jobs that need doing. There are 3 pubs that are incredibly welcoming to dogs and the food at both the Greyhound and the Kings Arms was delicious. The cottage is beautiful and very clean. It has everything that you need. The kitchen in particular is very well stocked, with everything that you need to cook and bake. The location is amazing and you can walk straight out from the cottage and across fields.
