From the town, you can access some fantastic walking routes including a moderate trail that leads to Appleby Castle and back. Find a new leash of life on the fells of the North Pennines, Knock Fell is 10.5 miles and Cross Fell is 12 miles away. The fabulous town of Penrith (15 miles) has a wide range of shops and eateries, or visit Pooley Bridge (18 miles), on the shores of Ullswater. From here, hop on the Ullswater Steamers to see some of the Lake District’s fabulous sights.
