Property code: OC-83459

This charming chocolate-box cottage is a tranquil home-from-home and sits within the heart of the former Royal Burgh of Lauder. This period property provides a great base for a couple and their four-legged friend to explore castles, trails and pretty towns.

Kick off your walking boots and hang up your waterproofs in the hall before heading through to the open-plan kitchen/dining room, where you can make yourself a piping hot cup of tea and settle in front of the Smart TV. The exposed brick walls, electric range oven and cosy colours make this a lovely room from which to serve some hearty meals for both humans and hounds. Outside, pooches will love scouting out every inch of the enclosed courtyard while two-legged friends enjoy a wee dram of whisky underneath the stars. When it’s time to let sleeping dogs lie, climb the stairs to the first floor, where you’ll be invited to rest your weary heads in the light and bright king-size bedroom, complete with another Smart TV, seating area and shower room. This quaint cottage is ideal for unwinding after a day of exploring the surrounding countryside.

The immediate area is a haven for avid walkers and bikers, with varied terrains and challenges to partake in. The Southern Upland Way begins moments from the property and heads northeast, passing the dramatic facade of Thirlestane Castle and meandering through heather moorland and views over the Cheviot Hills. Thirlestane Castle (1 mile), as mentioned above, hosts a variety of open-air theatre shows, art exhibitions and plenty of acres to get lost in, so it is well worth a visit. After hours of exploring, head into the centre of Lauder for a delicious pub lunch at one of the many eateries.

A perfect week in a delightful cottage: all the equipment youd need, comfortable and clean and in a great location with shops nearby. Especially wonderful was the courtyard and beautiful enclosed garden - when the weather was kind my dog and I enjoyed the outside space, and when the weather was less nice, the cottage was cosy and welcoming. Located on a main road behind the owners house. The garden looks lovely and the bedroom is fine - its a nice room with a good sized bed, a couch and a tv. Unfortunately the rest of the property is really not very nice. The kitchen/lounge is extremely cramped, tired and disorganised. The shower is an overhead shower in a tiny toilet with restricted Read morehead room and a tiny basin. No contact at all from the owners (I was there for 2 weeks). I would not recommend. Hide

Very small for the price. A little cluttered downstairs. Quite noisy, road traffic from early hours. Nice garden. Lovely walks in the area, and from the door. Nice people.

A lovely cute, cosy little bolthole. Spotlessly clean. Lovely friendly owners. The use of a super enclosed garden. Ideal location for visiting the Borders and up to Edinburgh and the coast. Thank you to Fiona, George and Luther the dog

This cottage is definitely quirky, but we had everything we needed, it was warm and cosy, and our dog absolutely loved the big walled garden, as did we. Fabulous food at the Black Bull a minutte up the road.
