The Southern Upland Way begins moments from the property and heads northeast, passing the dramatic facade of Thirlestane Castle and meandering through heather moorland and views over the Cheviot Hills. Thirlestane Castle (1 mile), as mentioned above, hosts a variety of open-air theatre shows, art exhibitions and plenty of acres to get lost in, so it is well worth a visit. After hours of exploring, head into the centre of Lauder for a delicious pub lunch at one of the many eateries.
