  • Dog-friendly accommodation with enclosed garden
  • Historic, characterful interiors with a roaring open fire
Property code: OC-SZ419

Situated on the cusp of the Western Lakes on the outskirts of the Cumbrian village of Pardshaw, this traditional cottage is a wonderful base for families. Sleeping six humans and two hounds, your abode is cosy and inviting with a roaring open fire and an abundance of outside space. The friendly owners have a farm next door where you are welcome to greet the resident animals (keeping Fido at a safe distance), and they’ll even taxi you to the local pubs and back so you can really relax.

Inside is brimming with period charm with the farmhouse-style kitchen acting as the heart of the home. Beamed ceilings, wooden units and a large table set the scene for sociable breakfasts, but there is also a dining room for more formal suppers. Relax with hot chocolate in the lounge with a snoring hound by your feet or spend your afternoon unwinding in the sunshine outside. The kitchen garden may be unsuitable for small children, but under careful supervision, your pup will have a ball stretching their legs. Steps lead down to the lawn (more suited to children) with its inspiring views of Mellbreak, and beyond this is the owners’ working farm. At bedtime, there are three bedrooms to choose from, all with access to the family bathroom although one has an en-suite.

Leave no stick unfetched as you explore the countryside, popping into Cockermouth (4.5 miles) to browse the shops and grab a bite to eat. Crummock Water, Buttermere and Bassenthwaite Lake are all within 18.5 miles to soak up the scenery, or why not attempt something more daring and scale High Stile or Grasmoor, both within 11.5 miles. Heading towards the coast, the clifftop walks towards St Bees from Whitehaven (11 miles) are breathtaking, and you may even spot puffins as you scamper along.

  • 3 bedrooms - 1 king-size, 2 twin bedrooms
  • 2 bathrooms - 1 en-suite bathroom with shower over the bath and WC; 1 family bathroom with a shower, and WC; separate WC
  • Electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher

  • Enclosed gardens - a lawned garden with plant borders, and a kitchen garden
  • Off-road parking for 3 cars
  • Please note, there are some sloping ceilings upstairs in this historic home, a flight of stone steps down to the lawned garden, and the old kitchen garden is unsuitable for young children
  • Pub 1 mile, shop 4 miles, beach 9 miles
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards

Well equipped cottage, always hot water but surprised we didn't have any hot water for the last day, needed to put the kettle on to wash a few dishes, no idea of the reasons. Lovely garden and patio furniture, unfortunately we didn't get the weather to use as often as we would have liked. The property was lovely, very spacious with a very well equipped kitchen. Mary was very helpful and approachable. Clean warm and very comfortable with plenty of hot water. The garden was large and very well cared for which is important to us for our dog to exercise so we don't have to go out if the weather is poor.
