This charming cottage, situated in the tranquil village of Patterdale, is the perfect Lake District hideaway for small families or couples and their faithful friends. Sleeping three across two cosy bedrooms and with space for up to two pups, it won’t be long before you’re feeling refreshed and ready to head out on walkies in the local area. Leave the car at the foot of Helvellyn (1 mile) and walk the many trails, or pay a visit to Aira Force Waterfall (4 miles) where the National Trust leaves water bowls around for thirsty pups throughout the site.

The property, which sits at the foot of Kirkstone Pass, has a cosy and welcoming feel. The kitchen has everything you need to cook up a storm, while wooden interiors and a wood burner in the lounge beckon you to snuggle up on the sofa, the pups curled up by the hearth. The dining table is a wonderful spot to enjoy breakfast at, offering fantastic fell views through the large patio doors. At bedtime, head to one of the peaceful bedrooms; relaxing blue tones will lull you to sleep so you wake up raring to go for tomorrow’s adventure.

Hop aboard one of the Ullswater Steamers (1 mile) and take a cruise along Ullswater Lake; stop off at Pooley Bridge at the top of the lake (9.5 miles by car) for a bite to eat in one of the dog-friendly pubs. Lowther Castle and Gardens (14 miles) is perfect for a stroll through the grounds, and kids will love the adventure playground – although your pups will have to sit this one out! Head to Keswick (17 miles) for the pencil museum or to take the 6-mile Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Trail that weaves its way over the River Greta.

The cottage is quite nice with everything you might need for a short stay. Wonderful to have a whole large cupboard for putting your own food in. The additional fridge freezer outside was most welcome, as was the washing machine. We felt our dogs were secure in the garden but a small escapee dog would be able to get out under the gates. Most of Read morethe garden area is hard patio but there is a small lawn and garden area for fussy dogs. Cottage was warm once we'd sorted out the heating timers and very convenient for our round Ullswater walking endeavour. We would happily recommend the cottage for anyone staying in the Ullswater area. Hide

Definitely recommend this lovely cottage. Clean and fresh on arrival. We would watch the birds feed outside the patio doors for ages. Great pub with delicious food a minutes walk up the road. Almost on the shores of Ullswater Lake.

Some elements of the cottage were great, well equipped kitchen, lovely welcome pack, amazing location. Perhaps because we visited end of season, but the cottage needed a deep clean which we have fed back to the owners. Elements of repair needed with low water pressure in the shower and the bathroom door not closing.

Great location. Garden is lovely, there's a fab selection of birds to watch on the feeders and red squirrels in the trees beyond. Cottage was warm and clean but is in need of a refurb.

Lovely, cosy cottage in great location. Easy walk to welcoming local pub and easy walk to Glenridding. Secure, dog safe garden. Cottage has everything you would need for a week's holiday. Comprehensive welcoming pack - much appreciated. Owner lives next door, is very helpful but not intrusive.

Best cottage weve ever stayed in. Cosy, big fridge and freezer meant less shopping as could stock up. Location superb. For dogs it was excellent as the garden was secure. Great sun trap at the back for relaxing with a coffee and then a great view from the living room.

Lovely location .and cottage very good value for money. The view across the fells from the lounge window made me smile every morning ! The welcome pack was much appreciated and the owners had clearly gone to some trouble to provide all creature comforts including seed for the bird feeders outside the lounge window.
