This fantastic property, situated in the Cumbrian village of Bothel, is perfect for large families or groups of friends – including the dogs, of course! Sleeping eight across four peaceful bedrooms and with space for up to three dogs to snooze, this cottage is an opportunity to explore both the Lake District and Solway Coast knowing that there’s a welcoming bolthole to return to after a long day. Take the 6-mile Solway Villages Trail that starts and finishes in Burgh By Sands (18.5 miles), walking through mills, meadows and small villages, before heading back to the dog-friendly pub less than 500 metres from your holiday home.
The cottage, which has been in the owner’s family for over 100 years, is spacious and inviting. The traditional and the contemporary blend perfectly in this house. A sleek kitchen diner, accessed down a step, welcomes you with a basket of local produce to help you settle in, while pretty pastel tones, wooden furniture and feature fireplaces dotted throughout the property give it a cosy feel. Pop the leads on the pups and head out to the amazing shared gardens where you’ll find a babbling stream, roaming chickens and a BBQ for dining alfresco among fell views.
Head off to Mirehouse (8.5 miles) for walkies around the grounds with the pups; they’ll have to wait patiently outside the adventure playgrounds while the kids unleash it all! There are plenty of family-friendly trails at Whinlatter Forest (14.5 miles) too. Make sure you visit Keswick (12.5 miles) for a lake cruise on Derwentwater, baffling illusions at the Puzzling Place and lots of dog-friendly pubs and cafes. Head into border city Carlisle (19 miles) to visit Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life, the castle and Bitts Park, where the Hadrian's Wall Trail passes right through.
