When you want to completely relax, this pretty lodge has everything going for it. Perfect for couples and small families bringing a furry best friend, it even has its own dog-walking field. It’s close to Barnstaple and ideal for walking, cycling, golfing and beach outings, with gorgeous views to return to at the end of the day.

Light, bright and tranquil, the single-storey holiday destination has a Scandi-rustic vibe and has been decorated with great thought and care. Cross the decking with your eager pup and enter straight into the open-plan living space, where pale and neutral tones combine with an eclectic mix of furnishings and create a tranquil atmosphere. Pop down your dog’s bowls on the wooden floor and turn around to enjoy the stunning rural view through the patio doors. The kitchen area has everything you’ll need to create tasty snacks and meals and, if you’re spending the night in, you can draw the curtains and snuggle up on the comfy seating, your canine companion at your feet, and stream a favourite show on the Smart TV. Sliding, barn-style doors lead to the two beautiful bedrooms, a double and a twin, sharing a family wet room. On warm days you’ll want to spend all your time outside, relaxing on the raised deck with a glass in hand or firing up the BBQ to grill a delicious meal.

The lodge is set just 1.5 miles from the ancient market town of Barnstaple, where you and your chum can join the Tarka Trail and enjoy strolling through idyllic countryside. The South West Coast Path offers more breathtaking scenery and, for a huge runaround, head to Saunton Sands, 9 miles, which is dog friendly all year. Alternatively, for moorland and woodland walks, Exmoor National Park is also 9 miles.

Nelson Lodge is comfortable and very well equipped. Spotlessly clean, bright and airy, and conveniently situated. It's in a quiet rural setting, yet only a few minutes drive from the centre of Barnstaple. We would happily stay there again!

A lovely cottage, one of two, on a small caravan site (max. 6 campers) 1 km outside Barnstable. The cottages are separated from the campers by a fence. A quiet place to return to, after a busy day sightseeing.
