Pack your walking boots, clip on a lead and head to this lovely home which is brimming with rustic charm and creature comforts, just perfect for a break away with your canine companion. Explore on foot, paw or bike and wind your way around well-trodden trails where stick chasing and wonderful landscapes await. Post adventure, snuggle up by the wood burner and challenge fellow two-legged guests to a board game.

Enter this upside-down house and make yourself right at home in the open-plan living space. Sit beneath exposed beams and put your feet up on the sofa as furry tums sprawl out at your feet and lap up the warmth from the wood burner. Wander over to the kitchen area and whip up something delicious to serve up at the dining table. For a quick snack, you can gather around the breakfast bar with a mug of tea or step out onto the private enclosed patio and fire up the BBQ for sizzled treats. Although this property adjoins the owner’s home, your privacy is ensured and you can spend time enjoying some peace and quiet in the outdoors space. When bedtimes near, descend to the ground floor and get ready for bed in the family shower room. The two bedrooms boast delightful views and are homely rooms in which to rest your head and drift off.

With footpaths running straight from your door, rise and shine and head out for a morning stroll around the community orchard and nature reserve. Chat to the owners and you can cast your rod in the river which flows through the grounds. Head further afield and make the 11-mile trip to the National Trust’s Croft Castle where dogs on leads are welcome to explore the walled garden, vineyard and the Iron Age hill fort.

A superb location. So near town with its shops and cafes and church yet next to the river. The bird life was lovely. Saw two kingfishers. The cottage itself was comfortable and everything you need. Fully recommend this let.

Another restorative week (this was our third visit to the Old Mill) in the borders. The house is a haven amidst trees, yet walking distance from Presteigne itself. It's such a great area, peppered with walks and history, and we always leave with a list of places for next time. Highly recommend The Harp in Old Radnor, and the strange grandeur of TitRead moreterstone Clee Hill. Thanks as ever to Francis and Cindy Hide

Lovely place and setting. Nice to look out into the garden from upstairs while having breakfast. Quiet and the owners (nextdoor) were lovely but left you to it.

Our second stay at The Old Mill. We were implausibly lucky with the weather, but even without that we would have been very contented - it's a very comfortable base from which to explore a great area. Cindy and Francis are warm and helpful hosts. We'll return soon we hope!

A beautiful, well-equipped cottage in a convenient location on the edge of the handsome small town of Presteigne. The accommodation adjoins a park/wildlife area - which was much appreciated by our dog - and is a short walk into town for shops, pubs and cafes. We found lots to see locally but it's a good centre for touring in the Radnorshire/HereforRead moredshire area with its attractive scenery and interesting towns and villages. Hide
