Dogs are allowed year-round on the northern end of the 2-mile beach at Westward Ho! Backed by the grassland of Northam Burrows Country Park, at low tide the sands are enormous and there’s plenty of space for them to let off steam. For walkies away from the shoreline, trails lead across the village and towards the neighbouring town of Bideford, where you can join the Tarka Trail or follow the South West Coast Path for off-road walks around the Taw-Torridge estuary. For a change of terrain, traffic-free Clovelly is 11 miles away and very pet-friendly – the steep cobbled walk to the quay and back will test your fitness!
