Enjoying a secluded woodland setting, this traditional thatched former millworker’s cottage makes a fantastic retreat for larger families and groups of friends, with plenty of space for a canine pal to tag along. Just a couple of miles from the breathtaking Atlantic coast, the property lies at the heart of the beautiful Hartland peninsula, and offers ample room for eight guests eager to explore a stunning part of North Devon. This fresh and inviting getaway features exposed beams and two pretty lounges with inglenook fireplaces providing an ideal spot for you and your four-legged friend to relax.

Entering the cottage, the main lounge has dual aspect windows with a stone fireplace, a wood burner effect electric fire, TV and seating, providing a relaxing space for everyone to unwind. A second lounge has a wood burner effect electric fire in a charming inglenook, with timber ceiling beams and a handsome dining table perfect for enjoying celebratory meals together which you can prepare in the traditional farmhouse-style kitchen. The kitchen has a cheerful breakfast table and a wealth of useful equipment. The ground floor also features the main family bathroom. There are four cosy bedrooms upstairs: three charming doubles and a lovely twin, along with a refreshing shower room and some handy office space. Outside, the picturesque garden has outdoor furniture and plenty of space for your pet to run about. A stream runs through the garden – please keep children supervised.

The picturesque village of Hartland is just a mile east, with some friendly places to eat and drink. Dogs are welcome to help you explore the quaint historic village of Clovelly (6 miles) and the gardens and grounds at Hartland Abbey (0.5 miles). The peninsula has several pet-friendly beaches including Spekes Mill, Shipload Bay and Blegberry Beach, all within 3 miles.

Good location and well equipped cottage. Lovely to be able to walk straight from it to the coast. Nice private garden. Furnishing practical rather than beautiful.

The owner emailed before our visit that it is a 'much loved family home' and we very much felt this during our stay - it is a very comfortable family home and we felt very welcome. The location was ideal with gorgeous woodland and coastal walks literally from the doorstep and Hartland Abbey as next door neighbours (with the added benefit of some Read moreof the most delicious cakes and toasties anywhere in their cafe). It was just the two of us this time, with our dachshund, but it was clear that it would be a really comfortable place to come back to with friends, and we would love to return. Hide

Beautiful cottage, comfortable and well equipped, in a lovely location. Lots of good walks from the cottage and nearby. It was easy to communicate with the owner.

Absolutely loved the quirky cottage. Fascinated by all the nooks and crannies. Amusing at first trying to remember where rooms were. Comfy beds, ample space generally and wonderful gardens back and front. Was lovely and peaceful too. Very accessible to various beauty spots not far away. If you are prepared to stay in a picturesque Grade II listed mid to later C18 thatched cottage with all its quirky foibles, authentic to its age, offering a slip back in time, then you will feel immediately welcomed and at home within those thick agd walls. We had a lovely time in Hartland and loved the cottage. The village and surrounding area was amazing. We hadn't been to that area before and we were really impressed with how much there was to see and do. We thought Hartland Quay was absolutely stunning. We would certainly go back to the cottage again should we return to the area.

All 9 of our party thoroughly loved this cottage, the garden is stunning and there is plenty of room for relaxing and games (my 5 year old niece thoroughly enjoyed hide & seek). The house is comfortable with large rooms and plenty of seating and cosy spots. Would recommend this property to anyone wanting a comfortable and cosy village getaway!

A charming cottage in a wonderful location. This has clearly been a well loved family home. It is in a great location for walks but also has a beautiful and quiet garden in which to relax and listen to the stream pass by at the end of the property. This is a lovely cottage in an idyllic location. It is a cosy and well equipped cottage and the welcome gifts on arrival were appreciated after a long journey. Absolutely loved the house and the garden, the storage heating made it feel very cosy and the location is beautiful. The new breakfast terrace was a wonderful place to enjoy the sun and all the birds and butterflies.
