Take the woofers for a morning ramble to the top of the mountain, or head into the pretty town of Crickhowell (3 miles), for a potter around the independent shops and a gentle stroll around the castle ruins.
The accommodation was once a row of quarrymen’s cottages and has been lovingly refurbished to retain much of the original features, such as the exposed stonework and beautiful beams. The large entrance hall, with its elegant floor tiles and feature fireplace, welcomes you into the property and provides ample room to store all your dog-walking gear. There’s also a handy utility room for outdoor clothing. The spacious kitchen has all you need to rustle up a tasty meal for the group, plus ample room for the hounds to set up camp. The property provides plenty of entertainment, with a fabulous playroom housing a pool/table tennis table, games, toys and games console. Outside, the pups can charge around on the lawn in the enclosed garden, whilst the kids burn off steam on the play equipment.
The walk up the steep north edge of Llangattock Mountain – known as Llangattock Escarpment – provides incredible views across the valley and towards the Black Mountains. The 5-mile loop takes you past the enchanting dark waters of Witches’ Pool, steeped in mystery and legend. Another great walk starts in the riverside village of Llangynidr (6 miles) and takes you to the summit of Tor y Foel. The route starts by following the canal and offers stunning views across the reservoir and towards the Black Mountains. There’s also a fabulous woof-friendly pub in the village to refuel afterwards.
