This characterful cottage is nestled in one of the oldest parts of the historic seaside village of Appledore. Set in an olde-worlde narrow street lined with fishermen's cottages and running parallel to the estuary, you are less than 500 yards from the picturesque quay in one direction and the lifeboat station in the other. Appledore has plenty of pubs, restaurants, galleries and independent shops to explore during your stay, as well as easy access to some great days out for the family, including your canine companions.

This is a lovely setting all year round where you can enjoy cosy winter evenings indoors or a secluded outdoor space to sit in summer, maybe sipping a glass of wine or two. There is a well-equipped kitchen if you choose to cook for yourself, or The Beaver Inn offers hearty cuisine and friendly hospitality less than 200 yards away - and the Royal George just 20 yards further on, is also renowned for its seafood fare.

Northam Burrows Country Park (2 miles) is close enough to reach on foot and a pleasure to walk with your dog. Westward Ho!, with its long sandy beach, Atlantic surf and seafront featuring lively amusements is only 3 miles away. The beach itself has restrictions for dogs during the summer months, but that still leaves a large area where they are allowed at the eastern end. A passenger ferry across the estuary to Instow runs from Appledore quay during the summer months; dogs are welcome aboard and Instow beach is dog-friendly, all year round, with a range of pubs, cafes and restaurants.

The cottage is representative of the Appledore cottages. No toilets upstairs, difficult stairs for over 60's. Nice garden. Response from owner and holiday cottages to our complaints about vermin in the roof (every night!) was NIL.

Easy access. Spotlessly clean. Great location. Everything we needed. Stairs may be difficult if limited mobility. Likewise steps into garden only for agile dogs and people. Ours would not navigate (dogs) and they are greyhound so we couldn't pick up!

A lovely cottage with well equipped kitchen. We stayed in November, it was very cold when we arrived and took a long time to warm up. The beds are rather soft so not ideal if you prefer a firm mattress.

Amazing little place to stay, with all the quirkiness that youd expect from a cottage, with plenty of home comforts too. Exactly what we were looking for, and a perfect location. Wouldnt hesitate to recommend.

We had a great stay at Cockle Cottage, it is basic but clean and tidy and has everything you are going to need and in a great location. Best of all its just 15 minutes walk away from North Burrows Country Park which is an amazing place for dogs and humans alike with acres of countryside walking (mind the sheep) and miles and miles of golden sandy bRead moreeaches. There is no on street parking but the public car park is just 5 minutes away and other than arrival and departure (bags) it wasn't a problem. Hide

Absolute gem of a cottage. Beautifully presented, spotlessly clean and good value for money. Well equipped and lots of small thoughtful touches such as the USB chargers built into the sockets either side of the bed. Having the outside space was great for having a cup of tea, sat at the end of the garden watching the wildlife. The bathroom and kitchRead moreen are modern and well equipped. Lovely cottage, extremely well equipped. We used the main car park by the Quay for our stay, paid for the week. No issues in June but may get busy in peak season. Superb cottage and location for a stay with a dog, most places very dog friendly and the burrows very close by. Our dog loved that beach.

Just had a lovely week at Cockle Cottage. Managed to park along Irsha Street, avoiding a 30 parking fee, but appreciate our luck there! Cottage is well equipped . Good sized fridge/freezer. Anyone needing downstairs bathroom at night, best to leave a light on, as staircase needs some negotiation. Also very creaky and always woke up occupant of otheRead morer bedroom. Reaching the garden is challenging, especially at top of steps when turning as narrow space. Great weather and loved Appledore! Hide

The cottage had all you need and was very comfortable the only problem that greets you is when you open the back door and find steep steps directly outside the door to the garden. Not good for older people or like us a big dog that cannot get up and turn into the garden easily or come back down safely as not enough room as he comes down into the kiRead moretchen.
