As if out of a fairy tale, this picture-postcard cottage seamlessly brings cosy and modern elements together for a stress-free stay in North Devon. Situated in the charming hamlet of Bucks Mills, this gorgeous retreat offers a family of four and their two contented canines a wonderful space to relax after a day of visiting the coastline.

Step inside this pretty home to find a warm, welcoming lounge with deep sofas and a flickering wood burner where your pampered pooches can stretch out after an energising walk. The well-equipped kitchen makes mealtimes a joy with its oil-fired Redfyre stove and country-style design. And when it's time to freshen up, the seaside-themed bathroom and separate shower room on the split-level floor, part-way up the stairs, invite you for a luxurious soak at the end of the day. Give your chums a kiss goodnight and head upstairs to the first floor, where three characterful bedrooms beckon you to rest easy. Your pets will love letting off steam on the grassy lawn at the front of the property while you sip your morning cuppa on the bench provided. A narrow path leads steeply up to a private hideaway with daybed, and continues to the very top of the garden where kids will be delighted to discover a play tower.

Take your pups for a stroll down to the rocky beach at Bucks Mills, accessible via a steep path from the cottage. Its raw coastal scenery and atmospheric woodlands are fantastic for those seeking pure tranquillity. A bucket and net will come in handy here, too, with many rockpools to explore and marine life to discover. For an off-beach adventure, pick up the coastal path adjacent to the coastline and enjoy a scenic cliff-top walk. To see more of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, spend a day in Hartland Village (7.5 miles), a timeless, unspoilt rural gem with craft shops, galleries, and cafes serving Devon cream teas.

Really enjoyed our stay - the walk down to the beach is wonderful and the location is very handy for visiting other places such as Clovelly and Hartland Quay. The cottage itself was lovely - very homely, clean and spacious. The extra bedroom and bathroom were great for the six of us and made our stay much easier. Would love to return in the future!

Everything about this cottage was what we were after in a holiday, clean and spacious. Brilliant kitchen to cook in. Living room ideal and bedrooms were perfect, just 2 of us went and we stayed in the main bedroom which was gorgeous. Just hearing the water at night was amazing and something I will deeply miss. The advice for the home and area Read morefrom the owners was super helpful and made us giggle at times. The garden was amazing, often ventured to the mysterious sections higher up. If you like coastal walking, this is amazing for you. Very big inclines and the thighs are still recovering. The beach is nice, very pebbly (large pebbles) but lovely to see the sunset from. Again quite steep to walk down too but worth it. If you like hiking/walking, walking sticks would be advisable although we were fine without. Overall, I would come back in a heartbeat, what a find! We had a fantastic Christmas week at Marks Cottage. 6 adults accommodated perfectly with plenty of room with 2 bathrooms. Ideally situated to walk to the beach or woodlands. Beautiful cottage and garden in a stunning location, but unfortunately it wasnt clean. There were cobwebs, hair; mould in the bathrooms, and the kitchen felt greasy and grimy. We stripped the beds before we left, too, and the pillows were heavily stained. It really took away from the experience, which was a shame as the house itself is gorgeous. Cosy, comfortable and charming. Very well equipped and has a lovely English cottage garden. Location is nice and remote, beach a few minutes walk. The local coastal walks are a great work out for the legs and lungs as they all have steep inclines, Bucks Mill Beach is great for swimming and at low tide rock pooling as well. North Cornwall just a quiRead moreck trip by car. No mobile phone connection at the house, but WiFi calling takes care of that. Highly recommended. Hide
