Get cosy in the lounge and watch a film while the dog takes a well-deserved rest snoozing by your feet. When you are ready for some shuteye, alight to the first floor and find two bedrooms, a double and a twin room, as well as a family bathroom. Take the patio doors from the lounge and find a wonderful, enclosed garden. The dog can safely explore while you enjoy dining alfresco on the patio furniture.
The historic fishing village of Appledore (0.5 miles) is set on the banks of the estuaries of the River Torridge and River Taw and is lined with chocolate-box, colourful houses. It is home to plenty of independent shops, restaurants and dog-friendly pubs to while away the day and has an outdoor activity centre that organises fabulous kayaking trips along the river. Alternatively, take the foot ferry across the river to Instow, where dogs can run wild and free on the beach here all year-round. You can also enjoy walks along the South West Coast Path that takes in some superb views along the rugged shoreline.
