  • A wealth of hill-top walks from your front door
  • A great base for exploring the Brecon Beacons National Park
Property code: OC-81465

Tucked into a hillside surrounded by wide open countryside, this secluded farm is just the tonic for an outdoor-loving couple and their beloved canine. Enjoy walks from the doorstep of your romantic bolthole or head off for epic adventures in the natural playground of the Brecon Beacons National Park. On days when you don’t want to stray too far, amble 2 miles to Painscastle for a refreshing pint or cosy meal in the dog-friendly village inn.

Scamper up stone steps to the front door of the cottage, and step into the welcoming open-plan living space. With exposed ceiling beams and a feature brick wall, it has bags of traditional charm while still feeling coolly contemporary. Enjoy simple homecooked suppers and sink into the sofa to watch a rom-com on the Smart TV, with Rover curled up beside you in his dog bed. When it’s your own bedtime, you’ll access your double room via a pull-down ladder with rope rail. During your stay, you’re welcome to dine alfresco and mooch around the garden, which is shared with the owner.

Breathe in spectacular panoramic views across the Brecon Beacons with hill-top walks on The Begwyns (3 miles). The route is classed as easy, so you don’t have to be super-fit for the climb. Literature lovers won’t want to miss Hay-on-Wye (7 miles), famous for its second-hand bookshops and arts festival. It also has several pubs that welcome muddy paws. If you’d rather have a picnic, walk to The Warren for lunch beside the River Wye. Further afield, at Llangorse Lake (17.5 miles), hire a boat or take your pup for a scenic walk.

A lovely property close to Hay on Wye, Hereford, Builth and the Elan Valley. Great hosts that provide everything for your stay. We had a fabulous time, staying for a week, as a couple.

We had a lovely stay at Penlan Granary - very quiet and peaceful. It was the perfect location for travelling to Hay-on-Wye for the book festival, as well as surrounding towns to explore and hike. Sarah and Andrew were very willing to help where needed and the cottage was the right size with lots of space downstairs to cook and chill out.

What a lovely quiet spot! Perfect location if you like walks. The accommodation is equipped with essential kitchen items. The upstairs loft bed is a quirky addition, and quite comfortable! Would happily stay here again in future.

We recently stayed at Penlan Granary and were more than happy with the accommodation. Sarah and Andrew were very welcoming. Andrew was very knowledgeable about the area. We found the Granary to be a little gem and would definitely recommend it to family. Many thanks Sarah and Andrew.

Lovely area, if somewhat remote! We went for peace and quiet, that's what we got. Highly recommended.
