Literature lovers won’t want to miss Hay-on-Wye (7 miles), famous for its second-hand bookshops and arts festival. It also has several pubs that welcome muddy paws. If you’d rather have a picnic, walk to The Warren for lunch beside the River Wye. Further afield, at Llangorse Lake (17.5 miles), hire a boat or take your pup for a scenic walk.
